Human Resources Specialist – Surrey, BC

AMC Insurance Service is looking for an experienced Human Resources Specialist to support the full range of day-to-day human resources functions across our growing organization. This is a hands-on role for an HR professional who can provide reliable employee support while coordinating recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance processes, policies, compliance, leaves, benefits, records, and other core HR activities.

The ideal candidate has broad HR experience in a multi-location, service-based environment and is comfortable working closely with managers and employees at all levels. Experience within the insurance, financial services, brokerage, or another regulated industry is strongly preferred.

Compensation: CA$65,000–$75,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications

Here is what a typical day looks like

- Provide day-to-day HR support to managers and employees on policies, attendance, performance, workplace concerns, leaves, accommodations, and other employment matters.
- Coordinate employee relations matters, gather information, maintain appropriate documentation, and escalate complex or sensitive matters to leadership when required.
- Manage recruitment and selection activities, including job postings, applicant screening, interview coordination, reference checks, offers, onboarding, and probationary follow-up.
- Support performance management processes, including review cycles, coaching documentation, performance improvement plans, and follow-up with managers.
- Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, employee handbooks, templates, forms, and internal HR documentation.
- Support compliance with BC employment standards, human rights requirements, privacy obligations, occupational health and safety requirements, and other applicable legislation.
- Coordinate employee leaves, disability documentation, return-to-work planning, workplace accommodations, and related follow-up while maintaining confidentiality.
- Support salary reviews, job descriptions, job classifications, and compensation administration by preparing information and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Coordinate employee benefit administration, vacation and leave records, and HR-related payroll changes in collaboration with Finance or payroll providers.
- Maintain accurate employee records, HRIS information, contracts, policy acknowledgements, performance documentation, and confidential personnel files.




- Coordinate onboarding and orientation to help new employees understand AMC's standards, policies, systems, culture, and expectations.
- Coordinate training and career development activities, including tracking participation, licensing requirements, and continuing education where applicable.
- Track and prepare HR reports on headcount, turnover, vacancies, retention, absenteeism, time-to-hire, and other workforce metrics.
- Support employee engagement, recognition, internal communication, culture-building, and retention initiatives across multiple office locations.
- Provide managers with practical guidance on consistent application of company policies and established HR procedures.
- Support workplace health and safety initiatives and maintain HR documentation related to applicable WorkSafeBC requirements.
- Coordinate offboarding processes, including resignations, termination documentation, exit checklists, final HR coordination, and exit interviews where appropriate.
- Stay current on employment legislation, HR best practices, and industry developments relevant to AMC's workforce.
- Handle sensitive employee and organizational information with professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, and confidentiality.

The value you bring
- Minimum 3 years of progressive human resources experience with hands-on responsibility across multiple HR functions.
- Previous experience in an HR Specialist, HR Generalist, HR Coordinator with expanded responsibilities, or comparable role.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Good working knowledge of British Columbia employment legislation and HR compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting employee relations matters, performance concerns, workplace issues, and confidential employee situations.
- Experience supporting or maintaining HR policies, procedures, programs, and documentation.
- Strong judgment and the ability to provide practical, professional HR support while recognizing when matters should be escalated.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive information professionally.
- Robust organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
- High level of confidentiality, discretion, professionalism, and integrity.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and experience with HRIS, payroll, applicant tracking,



or related HR systems.
- Ability to work in person at AMC's Surrey Head Office and support HR needs across multiple branch locations.

Assets
- Previous HR experience within the insurance industry, an insurance brokerage, financial services, or another regulated industry.
- CPHR designation, CPHR candidacy, or progress toward a recognized HR designation.
- Experience supporting a multi-location organization with both office and customer-facing employees.
- Experience with benefits administration, disability management, return-to-work coordination, and payroll-related HR processes.
- Experience improving HR processes, employee documentation, onboarding, performance systems, or manager resources.
- Familiarity with insurance licensing, continuing education, or compliance requirements affecting brokerage employees.

- Employees and managers receive timely, practical, and consistent HR support.
- Recruitment, onboarding, employee records, leaves, benefits, and offboarding processes are organized and accurately maintained.
- Employee relations and performance matters are documented appropriately and handled professionally, with complex issues escalated when necessary.
- HR policies and procedures are applied consistently across AMC's locations.
- Required HR documentation, reporting, and compliance processes remain current and reliable.
- Leadership receives accurate HR information and useful workforce reporting to support decision-making.
