The Instrumentation & Field Emissions Technician is a field-based technical position supporting oil & gas producers and midstream operators across Northern Alberta and

Western Canada.

This role combines instrumentation, measurement, controls, and field emissions services. The technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, calibrating,

troubleshooting, and commissioning instrumentation and control equipment, while also performing field emissions activities such as LDAR inspections, leak identification,

verification, documentation, and related environmental compliance work.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently in operating oil &

gas facilities and will take a practical, hands-on approach to identifying issues,

completing quality field work, and communicating findings to clients and the Blue Chip team.

This is a boots-on-the-ground role that connects field execution with Blue Chip's broader

Measurement, Regulatory, Environmental, Controls, and Field Services teams.

Key Responsibilities

Instrumentation & Controls

● Install, inspect, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair field instrumentation and control equipment.

● Work with pressure, temperature, level, flow, analytical, and other process measurement devices.

● Troubleshoot instrument loops, control panels, RTUs, field devices, and associated control systems.

● Perform instrument commissioning, startup support, functional testing, and verification.

● Install and troubleshoot instrument tubing, fittings, impulse lines, and instrument air systems.

● Support control valve, pneumatic, and mechanical instrumentation troubleshooting.

● Assist with electrical and instrumentation installation and construction activities.

● Identify equipment or control issues in the field and communicate recommended corrective actions.

Field Emissions & Environmental Services

● Perform field-based LDAR inspections and emissions monitoring activities.

● Identify, document, and assist with the repair and verification of equipment leaks.

● Conduct emissions surveys and follow established inspection and monitoring procedures.

● Support fugitive emissions,



venting, and other environmental compliance field programs.

● Collect accurate field data, photographs, equipment information, and inspection records.

● Perform follow-up verification of identified emissions sources and completed repairs.

● Work with the environmental and regulatory teams to ensure field information is complete, accurate, and defensible.

● Maintain a strong understanding of applicable client procedures and regulatory requirements.

Measurement & Field Technical Support

● Support field measurement activities where instrumentation or emissions work intersects with measurement systems.

● Assist with meter and measurement equipment installation, calibration, testing,

and troubleshooting.

● Identify measurement-related instrumentation issues and communicate them to the Measurement team.

● Recognize opportunities where instrumentation, controls, measurement, or emissions issues may be affecting facility performance or reporting.

● Provide practical field observations that support measurement integrity,

regulatory compliance, and operational improvement.

Client & Field Operations

● Work directly with client operations, maintenance, engineering, and environmental personnel.

● Represent Blue Chip professionally while working at client facilities.

● Complete work safely, efficiently, and to the agreed scope.

● Communicate field findings, deficiencies, additional work requirements, and potential risks promptly.

● Build strong working relationships with client personnel through reliable execution and explicit communication.

● Work independently while knowing when to escalate technical, safety, regulatory,

or scope-related issues.

Documentation & Reporting

● Complete accurate field service reports,



inspection records, calibration documentation, emissions records, and work summaries.

● Record instrument details, equipment conditions, deficiencies, repairs, and follow-up requirements.

● Maintain accurate electronic field records and supporting documentation.

● Ensure field data is complete enough to support client reporting, regulatory requirements, audits, and future maintenance.

● Provide clear technical notes and recommendations based on field observations.

Safety & Compliance

● Follow Blue Chip and client safety programs, procedures, and site requirements.

● Conduct work in accordance with applicable occupational health and safety,

environmental, and industry requirements.

● Participate in hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, and job planning.

● Maintain awareness of process hazards, sour gas environments, hazardous locations, and other risks associated with oil & gas facilities.

● Stop and escalate work when unsafe conditions or conditions outside the agreed scope are identified.

● Maintain a high standard of housekeeping, equipment care, and professional conduct.

Required Qualifications / Experience

● Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician

● Direct experience with field emissions testing (CSV, LDAR, MSAPR)

● Disciplined technical writing and reporting skills

● Proficient in excel and word

Required Certifications or Tickets, if applicable

● H2S Alive

● First-Aid

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience with measurement and reporting infrastructure

● Ability to read and interpret process flow diagrams

● Experience with one or more:

○ Envirosoft software

○ Process Ecology software

○ Intricate software

○ Muddy Boots software

○ Protrend

○ Prodview

Travel Requirements, if applicable

● Daily travel within the GP area.

● Occasional travel outside the GP area.

Physical / Field Requirements, if applicable

● Technician supplies their own truck (mileage reimbursed)

● Willing to work alone

Pay: $40.00-$46.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 44.0 per week
