Journeyman Parts Technician

Position summary

Reporting to the Parts Manager, the Parts Technician helps customers and service technicians identify, source, and obtain the correct parts. This role includes parts sales, purchasing, inventory control, and support for the daily operation of the parts department. The successful candidate will provide excellent customer service, manage competing requests, and help guide less experienced team members.

This is a permanent, full-time position scheduled Monday to Friday, with participation in a rotating on-call schedule.

Duties and responsibilities

· Assist customers and service technicians in identifying the correct parts using catalogues, diagrams, specifications, and vehicle or equipment information.

· Prepare accurate quotes and orders, confirm pricing and availability, and communicate expected delivery times.

· Source parts from approved suppliers, comparing availability, pricing, and delivery timelines to meet customer and shop needs.

· Follow up on outstanding quotes, backorders, and special orders, keeping customers and service staff informed of changes or delays.

· Recommend related parts and supplies needed to complete repairs or meet customer requirements.

· Respond professionally and promptly to inquiries in person, by phone, and by email.





· Receive and inspect parts, verify shipments against purchase orders and packing slips, and address discrepancies.

· Label, store, pick, and issue parts accurately for customer orders and service work orders.

· Process returns, cores, warranty parts, and credits according to company procedures.

· Assist with cycle counts, investigate stock discrepancies, and maintain accurate records in the parts management system.

· Help prioritize requests and support the smooth daily operation of the parts department.

· Share product knowledge, help train less experienced team members, and assist the Parts Manager with customer and operational issues.

· Identify stock shortages, frequently requested parts, and opportunities to improve customer service or inventory processes.

· Maintain an organized work area and follow company policies and safe work procedures.

· Stay current with product information, technical bulletins, and supplier updates.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Journeyperson Parts Technician certification.

· Experience identifying, sourcing, selling, and managing parts.

· Strong knowledge of parts catalogues, supplier ordering, and inventory procedures.

· Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with customers, suppliers, and coworkers.

· Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to manage competing priorities and follow orders through to completion.

· Ability to work independently, contribute to a team, and support the development of less experienced staff.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Teams, and the ability to use parts and inventory management software.

· CDK experience is an asset.

· Mack and Volvo parts knowledge is an asset.
