Job Summary

Advatek Systems is a Maritime-based systems integrator with a primary focus on Weigh Scale technology and Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) systems. Since 1987, Advatek Systems has been based out of Moncton, NB while supporting a customer base across the Maritime provinces. We provide the right mix of equipment, software, technical services, and the expertise to craft a tailored solution to fulfill industry-specific business requirements.

Advatek has been a key partner to many of Atlantic Canada’s industry leaders in manufacturing, food production, lumber, aqua-farming, municipal and provincial governments as well as healthcare.

We are currently seeking a Junior Scale Technician to join our team out of our Dieppe, NB office. This is an entry-level role designed for someone with an electronics, electrical, or mechanical trade background who is ready to learn the specialized world of weigh scale technology. Working alongside experienced technicians, you will learn to install, service, troubleshoot, and calibrate weighing equipment used across the Maritimes.

Through a structured 12-week onboarding program you will work toward your first Measurement Canada accreditation, then continue building your skills and earning additional accreditations (with pay increases tied to each) over your first one to three years. This is a permanent, full-time position reporting to the Operations Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Complete a structured 12-week onboarding program covering safety, scale components and terminology, calibration, and legal-for-trade requirements
- Assemble, install, set up, and calibrate bench and floor scales in the shop and at customer sites, initially under the guidance and sign-off of a senior technician
- Service, troubleshoot, and repair weighing equipment (load cells, indicators, junction boxes, and associated wiring), diagnosing both electrical and mechanical faults
- Prepare scales for Measurement Canada inspection and accurately complete calibration certificates, test weight correlation forms, and product test sheets




- Achieve Measurement Canada accreditation for bench and floor scales (MC 3-10) within the first three months
- Shadow and assist senior technicians on truck scale, industrial, and systems service calls and installation projects
- Progress to solo service calls (calibration checks, diagnostics, and routine maintenance) as skills and accreditations are signed off
- Install and support label printers and related data capture systems
- Communicate with customers in a professional manner about the work performed and system functions
- Complete all daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork, service reports, and documentation as required
- Understand, adhere to, and promote environmental health & safety practices
- Keep company vehicle, tools, and equipment organized and well maintained
- All other duties as assigned by management

Training and Career Progression

- Months 1–3 (Probation): safety and forklift training, bench and floor scale calibration, legal-for-trade process, field shadowing
- First accreditation: MC 3-10 exam and practical, then rostered for legal-for-trade work
- Years 1–3: self-paced advancement through additional Measurement Canada accreditations as job opportunities allow, including:
- Retail and computing scales (counter, POS, prepack)
- Industrial systems (hopper, crane, and overhead rail)
- On-board forklift weighing
- Truck scales (attended and unattended) and railway scales
- Mentorship throughout, and each accreditation tier earns a permanent hourly pay increase

Knowledge and Experience

- Diploma, certificate, or trade background in electronics, electrical, instrumentation, industrial mechanics (millwright), or a related technical field




- Trade work experience is an asset; recent graduates are encouraged to apply
- Working knowledge of basic electrical and electronic principles, including use of a multimeter and reading wiring diagrams
- Mechanical aptitude, strong manual dexterity, and comfort with hand and power tools
- Knowledge of low voltage industrial control systems considered an asset
- Outgoing, qualified, and friendly personality with the ability to liaise with customers
- Organized, dependable, and computer-literate, with a genuine willingness to learn
- Bilingual in French and English considered an asset but not required
- Weigh scale experience is not required; familiarity with these manufacturers is an asset: Mettler Toledo, Rice Lake, Weigh-tronix

Additional Requirements

- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Willingness to obtain a Class 3 driver’s license as part of your career progression
- Achieve Measurement Canada MC 3-10 accreditation within the 12-week probationary period
- Comfortable with physical work, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in all seasons
- Willingness to travel throughout the Maritimes, including occasional overnight stays
- Ability to pass a criminal record check and carry a government security clearance

Pay: $18.00-$24.00 per hour Expected hours: 44.0 per week
