Description

The Crest Hotel in Prince Rupert, BC is hiring a Kitchen Helper to join our culinary team. As a Kitchen Helper, you’ll help keep the kitchen clean, organized, and ready for service. You’ll work with cooks, servers, and other kitchen staff to keep dishes, cookware, utensils, and supplies moving through the kitchen.

Your day will include operating the commercial dishwashing machine, hand-washing kitchen items, cleaning work areas, receiving deliveries, restocking supplies, and handling waste and recycling. You’ll also help keep kitchen floors, dish areas, storage areas, and other back-of-house spaces clean and organized.

You’ll have opportunities to learn different parts of kitchen operations. You may help with basic food preparation such as peeling, chopping, and assembling ingredients. You’ll follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures and use kitchen equipment and cleaning products safely.

You may also support the restaurant during service by clearing tables, bussing dining areas, and returning dishes and service items to the kitchen. Good communication is important because you’ll work closely with the culinary and service teams throughout your shift.

No previous kitchen experience is required. We provide on-the-job training and are looking for someone who is reliable, follows instructions, keeps work areas clean, and works well with others.

This is a full time position offering approximately 40 hours per week at $20.82 per hour. The schedule may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Duties

- Operate the commercial dishwashing machine and hand-wash dishes, glassware, pots, pans,



and utensils.
- Clean and organize dishwashing stations, kitchen floors, work areas, and back-of-house spaces.
- Receive, unpack, check, and store food and kitchen deliveries using proper storage procedures.
- Restock clean dishes, glassware, utensils, and kitchen supplies in designated areas.
- Sort and remove garbage and recycling and keep waste areas clean.
- Prepare basic food items such as peeling vegetables, chopping ingredients, and assembling food.
- Clear tables and bus dining areas during restaurant service.
- Return used dishes, glassware, and service items to the kitchen.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
- Use cleaning products, dishwashing equipment, and kitchen equipment according to safety procedures.
- Communicate with cooks, servers, and supervisors about supplies, equipment, and kitchen needs.
- Complete assigned cleaning and kitchen support tasks during each shift.

Qualifications

- Previous kitchen, restaurant, dishwasher, or food service experience is an asset but not required.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete cleaning, stocking, and food preparation tasks correctly.
- Ability to follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
- Ability to keep work areas clean, organized, and stocked throughout the shift.




- Ability to work cooperatively with cooks, servers, supervisors, and other kitchen staff.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to learn kitchen procedures and safely use commercial kitchen equipment.
- Comfortable working around heat, water, cleaning products, and commercial kitchen equipment.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, including bus tubs, supply cases, and kitchen equipment.
- Ability to bend, reach, crouch, push, and pull throughout the shift.
- Ability to perform repetitive washing, cleaning, lifting, and food preparation tasks.
- Ability to work in a hot, humid kitchen environment.
- Ability to safely handle kitchen equipment, dishes, cookware, and cleaning supplies.

Education

- No formal education is required for this position.
- On-the-job training will be provided. Food safety, WHMIS, culinary, hospitality, or food service training is an asset.
