About the RoleLong Term Care – Royal Ottawa PlaceRoyal Ottawa Place is a 64-bed long-term care facility located at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. It provides a home-like setting for adults with stable mental illness and/or physical limitations. The facility is divided into four home areas, each supporting 16 residents, with an average age of 65 years.QualificationsCurrent registration with the College of Nurses of OntarioUp to 3 months Nursing ExperienceKnowledge of mental health/addiction issuesClear understanding of MHA and relevant legislationAble to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing PracticeKnowledge of mental health/addiction issues with specific knowledge about physical/medical compilations related to mental health and addictionsAble to meet the standards of nursing practice of the College of NursesCPR certification within the last 12 months (BCLS at a minimum)Evidence of continuing professional educationEffective verbal and written communications skillsEffective interpersonal and teamwork skillsProblem solving, leadership and management skills in responding to complex and rapidly changing situationsSensitivity, skills and experience working with diverse individuals and communitiesPreferred:BScNCertification in Psychiatric/Mental Health NursingExperience in Mental Health and/or addictionsMembership and active participation in a professional nursing organization (RNAO)Knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positioning techniquesExperience in Long Term CareClear understanding of MOH LTC standards and relevant registrationLanguage RequirementsEnglish level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing.
