Summary

We are looking for a Machine Operator to join our optical lab in Vancouver. Machine Operators turn lens blanks into finished prescription lenses. You will run our digital surfacing equipment, clean and inspect lenses between steps, and keep machines running so orders ship on time. This role suits someone who is detail-oriented, safety-minded, and enjoys hands-on technical work in a fast-paced production environment. Full training is provided.

Responsibilities

Lens Surfacing

- Operate our two surfacing lines.
- Load and unload jobs, and scan work tickets at each station so every order's status stays accurate.
- Monitor machine screens and alarms, and adjust settings as directed to keep lenses within specification.
- Help the team hit next-day shipping targets while keeping breakage and remakes to a minimum.

Lens Cleaning and Coating Prep

- Wash, rack and inspect lenses after surfacing. Operators are the quality check on cleaned lenses before they move to coating.
- Run ultrasonic cleaning and drying equipment and the curing oven.
- Inspect lenses for scratches, marks and other defects before coating, and pull any lens that does not meet standard.
- Load and unload anti-reflective (AR) coating machines.

Equipment Care

- Complete daily and weekly cleaning and preventive maintenance using standard checklists, including changing tools and consumables.
- Report machine faults right away to the Engineering team and your supervisor, and help get the line back up and running.

Quality and Documentation





- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at every step.
- Accurately record production, breakage and machine issues in our lab systems.

Safety

- Follow all safety protocols, including wearing required PPE and safely handling chemicals, adhesives and slurry.
- Keep work areas clean and organized using 5S practices.

Teamwork and Improvement

- Work closely with your supervisor, Engineering, Lab Support and Quality teams to meet production goals.
- Share ideas to improve quality, speed and safety on the line.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise, step-by-step instructions.
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort learning to operate and troubleshoot computer-controlled machinery.
- Basic computer skills (scanning, data entry, using production software).
- Clear communication and the ability to work well on a team.
- Ability to stand and walk for a full shift, lift and carry lens trays and supplies, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Comfortable wearing PPE and working around chemicals and machinery.
- Reliable and punctual, and able to work an AM or PM shift as assigned.
- Experience in an optical lab, manufacturing or machine operation is an asset but not required.

The starting hourly rate for this position is $20.00.
