Clear Health Group provides mobile occupational health services to workplaces across British Columbia, including construction sites, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, sawmills and municipal operations.

We’re expanding our occupational health services to include workplace noise measurement and are looking for an experienced technician to join us on a casual, on-call basis throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.

The work

BC employers are required to measure worker noise exposure when workers may be exposed to potentially harmful noise or when information suggests exposure could exceed 82 dBA Lex.

You’ll carry out workplace noise surveys in accordance with CSA Z107.56. Depending on the site, this may include:

- Fitting noise dosimeters to workers at the beginning of a shift and collecting them at the end
- Taking sound level meter readings throughout work areas
- Identifying and documenting noise sources and potential hazard areas
- Recording equipment, tasks, shift structure and worker activity during sampling
- Downloading and organizing instrument data
- Maintaining clear and complete field notes and records
- Working around active crews, equipment and vehicles without interfering with site operations

Clear Health Group will coordinate the client, scheduling and site requirements. Equipment will be provided as required.

What we’re looking for

This is not an entry-level or trainee position.



We’re looking for someone who already has hands-on workplace noise measurement experience and can confidently carry out field work with minimal supervision.

You should have

- Hands-on experience using noise dosimeters and sound level meters in occupational or industrial environments
- Working knowledge of CSA Z107.56 noise measurement methodology
- Strong attention to detail and accurate field documentation
- Experience working independently on active industrial or construction sites
- Comfort working around heavy equipment, moving vehicles and other workplace hazards
- Ability to wear required PPE and follow site-specific safety requirements
- Availability for full-shift sampling and early starts, sometimes 6:00 AM or earlier
- A valid BC driver’s licence and reliable vehicle
- Clear written English for field documentation
- Ability to carry instrument cases and spend extended periods walking and standing on industrial sites

We are primarily interested in real hands-on experience. If you’ve actually carried out workplace noise surveys before, we want to hear from you.

Assets The following are considered assets, but are not required:

- Occupational hygiene education or qualifications such as ROH, CIH, CAIH, or related coursework
- CRSP or CRST designation
- Diploma or degree in occupational health, environmental health, occupational hygiene or a related field




- Experience preparing complete workplace noise survey reports
- Previous experience in an industrial trade, construction or occupational safety role

Schedule

We want to be upfront about the hours.

This is casual, on-call work with no guaranteed hours. Jobs are based on client bookings and will not necessarily be consistent from week to week.

Noise surveys can also involve long days because full-shift dosimetry may require being on site before the worker’s shift begins and returning or remaining on site until sampling is complete.

This position may be a good fit for someone looking for additional versatile work alongside consulting, another part-time role, a reduced work schedule or semi-retirement.

Compensation

$39.00 per hour for all time worked, including travel time.

Mileage is reimbursed separately at the applicable CRA automobile allowance rate.
