Position Summary

As an Occupational Therapy Consultant on the Complex Behaviour Support Team within Specialized Learning Supports, you will provide transdisciplinary support to students within specialized programs. Through coaching, modeling, and professional learning, you will help school personnel address environmental, sensory, and regulatory factors using proactive, trauma-informed, and neuroaffirming practices to foster student engagement and success.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

- Provide direct consultation, collaboration, active classroom participation, and hands-on modelling of evidence-informed strategies to support students within specialized and inclusive settings, including Connections classrooms.
- Provide and support individual and small group programming to develop student socio-emotional skills, regulation, social participation, interoceptive self-awareness, student advocacy, and interpersonal skills that support students’ engagement and participation in the school environment.
- Assess and adapt classroom environments, routines, materials, and sensory supports to promote regulation, accessibility, engagement, and access to academic instruction.




- Work with educators in developing proactive classroom supports, environmental adaptations, and skill-building strategies that promote regulation, self-advocacy, interoception, self-care routines, participation, and academic engagement.
- Design, model, and coach targeted occupational therapy strategies with school staff.
- Collaborate with transdisciplinary teams to develop proactive, strength-based supports for students with complex needs, including participation in case conferences and transition planning.
- Identify, recommend, model program interventions, environmental modifications, and specialized equipment. Collaborate with school teams, families, and external partners to support student success.

Education/Qualifications

- Master's degree in Occupational Therapy
- Active registration and valuable standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
- Minimum of three years of experience providing school-based consultation, coaching, and modelling to educators and school teams to support student participation, independence, learning, and academic success
- Knowledge and application of neuroaffirming, strengths-based, and trauma-informed practices within school environments Excellent communication, collaboration, and program intervention skills

Rate of Pay $54.10 - $69.19 per hour
