About the Job
As a paralegal, you will provide comprehensive support to the partners and lawyers of the firm with legal and administrative procedures, activities, and documentation. To be a successful paralegal, you will need to have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail is a must. To thrive in this busy environment, you must exhibit good time management skills, sound judgment, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and adapt to a changing environment.
Responsibilities:
Specific duties of a paralegal may vary depending on the needs of the firm; this is not a comprehensive or exhaustive list of responsibilities.
- Conduct research and gather relevant information to support case preparation
- Assist in drafting legal documents, such as contracts, pleadings, and briefs
- Organize and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are accurately filed and easily accessible
- Coordinate with lawyers and clients to gather necessary information and documentation
- Prepare and update case reports, including monitoring deadlines and upcoming court appearances
- Assist in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders
- Provide administrative support, including answering phone calls, scheduling meetings, and managing calendars
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Paralegal or similar role
- Paralegal or legal assistant diploma or related post-secondary education
- Proficient in legal research and document drafting
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proficient in using legal software and databases
- Experience in litigation is an asset
- Bilingual in French and English is an asset
