PROJECT COORDINATOR, ELECTRICAL PROCUREMENT

Compensation: $67,000 to $75,000 per year, based on electrical experience and credentials

ABOUT VCT GROUP

VCT Group is a commercial solar PV, EV charging and energy innovation electrical contractor based in Kitchener. We design, build, connect and maintain rooftop, canopy and ground mount solar systems and EV charging infrastructure for property owners, REITs, municipalities, universities and industrial clients. We self-perform our electrical work, and everything we build has to pass ESA inspection and utility connection before it earns a single kilowatt-hour.

THE ROLE

This role sits between our electrical design team, our field crews and our suppliers. You will own electrical material procurement from issued-for-construction drawings through to delivery on site, and carry the permitting and closeout paperwork that gets a project energized and handed over.

The right person can pick up a single line diagram and tell us what needs to be ordered, what is long lead, what does not match the design, and what will not pass inspection. They will know their way around a site and have been involved in direct on site installation or coordination before. Your electrical knowledge is the reason you will catch problems before they reach site.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Electrical takeoffs and material lists

- Build materials procurement and field takeoff lists from shop drawing packages, single line and three-line diagrams, and equipment schedules, covering modules, inverters, combiners, disconnects, overcurrent protection, conductors, raceway and fittings, grounding and bonding, transformers, metering and communications hardware
- Attend pre-construction electrical walkthroughs with the construction superintendent and electrical designer to confirm point of connection, equipment locations, conduit routing and run lengths, and update the takeoff from what you see on site
- Check specified and quoted equipment against the design: voltage and current ratings, short circuit and interrupting ratings, enclosure type, conductor type, size and ampacity,



and CSA or cUL certification markings
- Flag missing, conflicting or undersized items to the electrical designer before an order goes out

Purchasing and supplier management
- Request and compare quotes, and issue purchase orders to electrical distributors and to module, inverter, racking and balance of system.
- Review proposed substitutions for electrical equivalence and certification, and escalate anything that changes the design or the drawings
- Track long lead equipment such as switchgear, transformers, main disconnects, utility metering and SCADA or relay enclosures against the construction schedule
- Coordinate freight, delivery windows, site versus shop delivery and offloading requirements with suppliers and the field team
- Receive and reconcile deliveries against purchase orders, and manage shortages, returns, RMAs and warranty claims
- Stage material so it is ready to go to site, and use inventory management system.
- Match supplier invoices to purchase orders and approve them for payment
- Maintain communication on projects in your portfolio throughout the build to provide the team with all material needed to execute the build.

Permits, utility coordination and closeout
- Prepare and submit ESA notifications and permit documentation, building permit packages and responses to municipal review comments
- Support utility (LDC) requests for equipment details, including meters, protection equipment, communications and antennas
- Support ESA field evaluation requests for custom-built enclosures
- Schedule and coordinate subcontractors and third parties such as engineers, crane operators and paving contractors
- Assemble closeout packages including as-builts, equipment datasheets, warranties, ESA certificates and O&M; documentation

WHAT YOU BRING

Electrical background (required)

- An Electrical Engineering Technician or Technologist diploma, or an electrical trade background (309A licence, apprenticeship or equivalent field experience)
- At least 3 years of experience in electrical contracting, electrical distribution or supply,



or electrical project coordination
- Ability to read and interpret single line and three-line diagrams, panel schedules, equipment datasheets and electrical specifications
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, including conductor sizing and ampacity, overcurrent protection, grounding and bonding, raceway fill and disconnecting means
- Familiarity with low voltage distribution equipment (600 V and below): switchboards, panelboards, fused and non-fused disconnects, transformers, CTs and revenue metering
- An understanding of CSA and cUL certification and ESA requirements for approved equipment

Considered an asset
- Solar PV experience: DC string design, MC4 connectors, rapid shutdown, string inverters and combiners
- EV charging experience with Level 2 and DC quick chargers, including load management
- Familiarity with Ontario utility connection processes (CIA, CCA and COVER testing)
- Experience with procurement or ERP systems, Monday.com or inventory management systems.

- Organized and detail oriented, with a system for tracking dozens of open orders across multiple projects
- Persistent with follow-up, and comfortable pushing back on a supplier or a drawing when the numbers do not add up
- Clear, skilled written communication with suppliers, utilities, inspectors and clients
- Valid Ontario G licence and willingness to travel to project sites
