Hiring: Senior Digital Architect

Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Remote

Duration: November 2, 2026 – November 1, 2027 (possibility to extend)

Hourly Rate: $90/hour - $105/hour (based on experience)

Client: Public Sector A Digital Architect provides architectural expertise and strategic guidance and is responsible for overseeing the software architecture of digital services, the alignment of services to a common architecture vision, and the iterative delivery of solutions to create a complete digital service. As the senior technical resource on the team, the Digital Architect(s) -Data will guide the team in the rapid, iterative delivery of user-centric services with solution designs that align to the overall architectural vision and are in support of technical standards, coding standards, common tools and platforms.

Architect(s) will also guide the product owner and team in balancing the allocation of team capacity between user stories and technical tasks.

Architect(s) - Data may perform some development work if needed. Therefore, a Digital Architect must have a robust technical understanding of current and emerging technologies, balanced with strong business acumen and project leadership skills.

Responsibilities:

Services and project deliverables should evolve as the work progresses, in response to emerging user and business needs, as well as design and technical opportunities. However, the following must be delivered (iteratively) over the course of the project:

Lead the solution architecture of digital services by:

- Developing the overall architectural plan, ensuring a citizen-centered design and agile software approach;
- Uncovering existing system context;
- Providing recommendations and prototypes for technical discovery and feasibility;
- Providing and being accountable for the solution designs that account for iterative implementation; and
- Analyzing impacts, exposure, and risk as it pertains to the solution design.

Guide the team in the implementation of digital services by:
- Facilitating frequent delivery of products to ensure that the target architecture is successfully created;




- Determining the tactical approach on each integration and the target state of system boundaries and interactions;
- Identifying opportunities to leverage common components and capabilities of other digital services;
- Encouraging team contribution towards developing opportunities to leverage other digital services;
- Providing guidance on the creation of detailed designs for solution implementation;
- Reviewing code changes;
- Contributing to code changes in order to implement user stories and to complete technical tasks; and
- Providing coaching and mentorship to the product team.

Contribute to the architectural vision for a platform of user-centric services, particularly as it relates to the use of common components and capabilities to accelerate service delivery.
- Contribute to the development of principles, metrics, and standards for service quality and delivery.
- Provide software architecture information to technical and non-technical audiences by creating materials (documents, diagrams, presentations, etc.) appropriate to the audience.
- Actively participate in the development and continuous improvement of the architecture practice.

Must Haves:

- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field of study equivalencies will be considered.
- 5+ years demonstrated experience leading cross-functional agile product teams, providing architectural direction, and mentoring developers and technical leads.
- 8+ years’ experience as a data architect, software architect, or senior data engineer, where the proposed resource’s focus has been collaborative work on and/or with cross-functional teams to create new software applications.




- 5+ years’ experience in leading solution architecture and introducing the overall technical vision for a large-scale Enterprise project with integrations between systems.
- 4+ years’ experience leading domain modelling and database schema design for transactional and reporting systems.
- 5+ years of demonstrated strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making.
- 3+ years’ experience aligning data architecture with organizational data strategies, digital service delivery goals, and emerging AI-enabled business capabilities.
- 3+ years’ experience applying data governance principles to ensure data consistency, quality, compliance, metadata management, and responsible use of data for analytics and AI solutions.
- 4+ years’ experience applying secure development practices and managing identity and access using role-based or attribute-based access control and Zero Trust Architecture principle.
- 5+ years’ experience architecting solutions that leverage relational and non-relational databases, analytics platforms, and AI technologies, including data modeling, performance optimization, and the delivery of actionable insights.
- 2+ years’ experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to embed data interoperability and standardization practices into product development workflows.
- 5+ years’ experience incrementally transforming legacy systems into modern digital and data-driven services across multiple releases, leveraging cloud-native and AI-enabled technologies where appropriate.
- 2+ years’ experience with the Government of Alberta's Information Technology/Information Management policies, standards and guidelines.
- 3+ years’ experience working within an organization equivalent in size and complexity to the Government of Alberta, supporting enterprise-scale data, analytics, and digital transformation initiatives.
