Position Overview

We are currently seeking a reliable and hardworking Yard Labourer / Operations Assistant to join our Operations team.

This is a hands-on and physically active position focused on providing general support throughout our yard and dock operations. The successful candidate will assist with the receiving and shipping of metal materials, loading and unloading operations, material handling, yard organization, and other operational duties as required.

A key part of this role will be supporting our dock operations, where materials are received and shipped.

The employee will receive training in the identification, classification, and purchasing of different types of recyclable metals. As part of this training, they will be expected to support our Non-Ferrous area and learn how materials are identified, sorted, handled, and purchased.

This is a dynamic Operations support position, and responsibilities may change throughout the day depending on workload and operational needs. Candidates must be comfortable taking on different hands-on tasks and assisting wherever support is required.

This position is assigned to both our Richmond and Maple Ridge locations. Most shifts are expected to be at our Richmond facility; however, the employee must be available and willing to work at Maple Ridge whenever operational coverage or business needs require.

Applicants should understand that both Richmond and Maple Ridge are designated work locations for this position. Reliable personal transportation is therefore required to travel independently to either facility.

The position involves working outdoors in different weather conditions and in an active industrial environment with heavy equipment, machinery, dust, dirt, and noise.



Candidates must be comfortable working safely in this type of environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide general hands-on support to daily yard and Operations activities.
- Assist with dock operations, including the receiving and shipping of recyclable metal materials.
- Assist with loading and unloading metal materials from containers, trucks, trailers, and bins.
- Help move, organize, sort, stack, and stage ferrous and non-ferrous materials throughout the yard.
- Perform general labour and material-handling duties as required.
- Assist operators and other Operations team members with daily tasks.
- Maintain loading, unloading, and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Learn to safely operate a forklift through company training and provide backup coverage for the primary Forklift Operator once trained and approved.
- Support forklift operations as required after successfully completing the necessary training.
- Learn to identify and classify different types and grades of recyclable metals.
- Participate in training to learn the company's process for purchasing and receiving metal materials from customers.
- Provide support in the Non-Ferrous area, including sorting, handling, organizing, and assisting with material purchasing activities once trained.
- Follow all company safety procedures, instructions, and operational requirements.
- Support different areas of Operations depending on workload and daily business needs.
- Work at either the Richmond or Maple Ridge facility as scheduled or required.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (approximately 23 kg) when required.
- Ability to perform physical labour throughout the workday, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and handling materials.
- Comfortable performing hands-on physical work as a regular part of the position.
- Comfortable working outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions, including rain, cold, and heat.
- Comfortable working in an industrial metal recycling workplace with heavy equipment and machinery operating nearby.
- Comfortable working in conditions that may include dust, dirt, noise, and exposure to outdoor elements.




- Ability to remain aware of surroundings and follow safety procedures while working around moving vehicles and heavy equipment.

Requirements

- Previous general labour, warehouse, recycling, construction, shipping/receiving, or industrial experience is considered an asset.
- Previous forklift experience or certification IS AN ASSET but is not required.
- Must be willing and able to learn how to operate a forklift safely and complete the required training.
- Willingness to learn the identification, classification, handling, and purchasing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Comfortable supporting the Non-Ferrous area and learning different operational responsibilities.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and awareness when working around heavy equipment.
- Reliable, punctual, hardworking, and able to follow instructions.
- Flexible and willing to perform different tasks depending on operational needs.
- Able to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Must have a valid driver's licence and reliable personal transportation to travel independently to both the Richmond and Maple Ridge work locations.
- Must be willing and available to work at either Richmond or Maple Ridge when scheduled or required.
- Must be comfortable with a position that combines general labour, dock support, material handling, Non-Ferrous support, and eventually forklift operation.
- Experience operating other industrial or yard equipment is considered an asset but is not required.
- IMMEDIATE AVAILABILITY IS PREFERRED.

Compensation & Benefits

- Pay: CA$23.00 per hour
- Schedule: Monday to Friday - 8:30 AM – 5:00 pm (Richmond) / 7:30 AM-4:30 PM (Maple Ridge)
- Work Locations: Richmond, BC and Maple Ridge, BC
- Primary Location: Most shifts are expected to be in Richmond; however, employees must report to Maple Ridge whenever scheduled or required based on operational needs.
- Saturday Availability: Candidates must be open to working Saturdays at either Richmond or Maple Ridge when additional operational support is required.
