Youth Program Manager
Schedule: Monday to Friday – mandatory Tuesday/Friday evenings (occasional weekends as programming demands)
Work Location: In person- BGC FORT SASKATCHEWAN
Rate of Pay: $ 22.00 - $28.00 per hour - based on experience
BGC, Fort Saskatchewan, is a nonprofit youth serving organization that has worked with children, youth and families for over 40 years. We are a member of BGC Canada and offer a range of programs and services for the community. We strive to provide an inclusive environment for children, youth, and families of all backgrounds.
Position Overview:
The Youth Program Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of most youth centered initiatives. This role ensures that programs ranging from recreational to career readiness are inclusive, engaging, and aligned with the BGC’s mission statement and core values. The role includes managing a team of staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality youth services to over 250 local youth annually.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, & supervise staff/volunteers
- Manage a team of staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality youth programs and services
- Work cooperatively with staff to motivate, empower and encourage a positive and productive and professional environment
- Collaborate with schools, families and community partners to build and maintain program reach and engaging programs
- Manage budgets, track expenses, write some grants and submit reports
- Support/assist all youth staff with any behavioral concerns of youth
- Provide a protected, confidential environment for youth to disclose sensitive issues; expertly manage high-risk situations, including mental health crises and protection concerns, by following mandatory reporting protocols and connecting youth with appropriate clinical or social resources.
- Manage program budgets and resources
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and attendance tracking
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and safety regulations
- Coordinate registration and communication with families
Programming
- Create a monthly calendar, consisting of activities, events and programming designed for ages 12-17
· Design, implement and execute programs/events - recreational, educational, leadership, and social activities Weekly Youth Nights: Oversee the planning and execution of consistent, engaging social programs.
Employment Strategy: Develop and lead workshops focused on resume building, interview skills, and career readiness.
School Outreach: Build and maintain strong partnerships with local schools to increase program visibility and accessibility.
· Recruit and work directly with youth to create programs, groups and experiences they want to be involved in
· Drive recruitment strategies to increase program participation
· Implement existing youth programming, identify and develop NEW programs in response to trends and youth demands.
· Facilitate programming along with other youth staff
· Ensure programs are engaging, age-appropriate, and aligned with organizational goals
· Evaluate program effectiveness and make improvements as needed
· Develop seasonal and long-term program plans
· Promote programs through outreach and marketing efforts
· Ensure all programs follow safety guidelines and risk management procedures
· Respond to incidents and emergencies as required
Staff & Volunteer Management
- Recruit, train, and supervise youth staff and volunteers
- Schedule staff and oversee day-to-day operations
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback
- Lead team meetings and training sessions
Youth Engagement & Support Build positive relationships with youth participants
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and safe environment
- Address behavioral concerns and conflict resolution appropriately
- Support youth development, leadership, and well-being
- Respond appropriately to youth disclosures, following organizational policies and legal reporting requirements while ensuring confidentiality, safety, and emotional support
Qualities for Success
- Demonstrable skill and enjoyment in working with youth, with an excellent understanding of effective methods of managing, caring, and promoting positive behaviors with youth.
- Knowledge, experience and/or education in program planning and development, coordination, and implementation.
- Ability to form positive relationships with staff, youth, and parents.
- Ability to work independently and within a team that embraces collaborative practices.
- A commitment to personal and professional development.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Knowledge of computers and related experience with Microsoft software.
- Skill in organization and workload management for oneself and others.
- Ability to be creative and flexible. Ability to solve problems and make decisions.
- Minimum of 1-year experience working with youth.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
CANIDATES MUST HAVE or are willing to obtain:
- Current First Aid Certification
- Current Suicide Intervention Training/ ASIST/ Mental Health First Aid
- Criminal Record Check
- Child Welfare Intervention Record Check
- Disclosure Training
- Post Secondary in a relatable field is an asset
