Title: Heavy Duty Mechanic (Sand Hauling Fleet) Location: Grande Prairie Reports To: General Manager Type: Full time Schedule: 8/6 Rotation Position Summary We are seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic to support a sand hauling operation by performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and compliance work on highway tractors and Super B sand trailers. This role is critical to keeping equipment safe, reliable, and CVIP-ready with minimal downtime. Key Responsibilities Preventive Maintenance (PM) · Complete scheduled PM services on tractors and trailers (fluids, filters, greasing, inspections). · Identify wear items early (brakes, tires, hubs, suspension, steering, air systems) and recommend repairs. Diagnostics & Repairs — Tractors · Diagnose and repair engine, electrical, starting/charging, cooling, driveline/vibration, steering/suspension, brake and air system issues. · Perform post-repair checks and ensure repairs meet safety and quality standards. Trailer & Sand Equipment Repairs · Inspect and repair trailer brake systems, air leaks/lines, suspension, landing gear, lights/wiring, tires/wheels, and structural items. · Address sand-haul specific issues (hoses, couplers, valves, connections, hardware) to ensure safe loaded operation. CVIP / Compliance · Perform CVIP inspections (if certified)



and/or prepare equipment for CVIP by completing deficiency repairs. · Ensure all work meets Alberta compliance requirements and internal safety expectations. · Maintain accurate documentation (work orders, inspection notes, parts used). Shop & Team Support · Communicate equipment status, downtime, and repair priorities with shop leadership/dispatch. · Support parts ordering requests and maintain clean, safe work practices (PPE, housekeeping, etc.). Qualifications & Requirements · Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) · Strong experience with highway tractors and air brake systems. · Solid trailer repair capability (brakes, air, electrical, suspension). · Valid driver’s license required (Class 1 is an asset). · CVIP certification is a strong asset (or willingness to obtain). · Ability to work independently, prioritize urgent repairs, and meet deadlines in a busy fleet environment. · Physically capable of performing shop work (lifting, kneeling, climbing, outdoor conditions as needed).
