Role Description Type 3 Asbestos Abatement Workers are responsible for safely removing and handling asbestos-containing materials in accordance with provincial regulations and site-specific procedures. This contract, on-site role is based in London, ON and involves setting up and maintaining containment areas, including barriers, negative air units, decontamination facilities, and proper signage. Day-to-day tasks include using appropriate tools and equipment to remove asbestos, bagging and labeling hazardous waste, and coordinating with supervisors and other trades to ensure safe work sequences.

Workers must follow all safety protocols, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), complete daily inspections of work areas and equipment, and accurately document work performed.



The role also involves participating in safety meetings, reporting hazards, and complying with all company and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

- Type 3 asbestos abatement training and valid provincial certifications or licenses, including knowledge of applicable regulations and codes.
- Valid Working at Heights Certificate
- Demonstrated experience in hazardous materials handling, including asbestos removal, containment setup, and waste disposal procedures.
- Solid understanding and practice of occupational health and safety, including PPE use, respiratory protection, and lockout/tagout where required.
- Ability to work effectively on construction sites, including physical stamina for lifting, bending, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods.
- Reliable teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, co-workers, and other trades in a unionized environment.
- Attention to detail for following written procedures, completing documentation, and maintaining clean, compliant work areas.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites in and around London, ON.
- Previous experience with LIUNA or other unionized construction or maintenance work is an asset.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional safety or construction-related training is considered an advantage.
