Assumption University is seeking a qualified individual to teach

Topics in Catholic Studies (Winter 2027)

Course Description: This course will explore the diverse expressions of Catholicism by studying various Catholic communities from around the globe. Students will discover how Catholicism is practiced in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, South America, Oceania, and others. The course will examine the history of various Catholic communities, the major figures who played a role in shaping these communities, the unique religious customs, and the potential tensions between Rome and these communities.

Students will also discuss the role of missionaries in spreading Catholicism, the effects of colonialism, religious persecution of Catholics, and ecumenical and interreligious dialogue.

Note: Topic will be mutually agreed upon by the President and Professor.

Length of Appointment: January 1, 2027 to April 30, 2027 (Inclusive)

Class Date and Time: Thursdays 6:00-8:50 PM

Course Level: Graduate

Delivery Mode: Online and Synchronously

Stipend: $9,000.00 (Canadian)

Required Qualifications ü A completed Ph.D./Doctorate in Catholic studies, theology, or a cognate field of study.

ü A distinguished teaching record at the university level, preferably at the graduate level.

ü A publication record.
