CAD Detailer & Fabrication Support Specialist

Location: On-site - Fort Erie (Niagara Region)

Target Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000 per year

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Sales and Engineering Manager, the CAD Detailer & Fabrication Support Specialist is responsible for accurately detailing reinforcing steel (rebar) according to contract drawings, structural specifications, and the Reinforcing Steel Manual of Standard Practice. In addition to primary detailing duties, this role plays an integral part in supporting our shop operations, inventory management, and quality control processes.

Key Responsibilities

Detailing & Technical Coordination (50% - 60% of time)

- Examine engineering and architectural drawings to perform structural take-offs and determine reinforcing steel requirements for concrete structures.

- Utilize AutoCAD to produce precise and accurate shop drawings that facilitate the fabrication and placement of reinforcement steel as specified in contract documentation.

- Review revised drawings to identify changes between Tender and Construction stages, entering these revisions into estimating software for proper pricing.

- Identify specialty or long-lead materials at project inception to ensure timely procurement and avoid job site delays.





- Proactively request and track missing project data (such as elevations, pour break locations, and construction joints) necessary to complete accurate details.

- Work closely with engineers, architects, and customers to submit shop drawings for approval and resolve placement or fabrication inquiries on site.

Fabrication, Inventory, & Operations Support (40% - 50% of time)

- Generate clear fabrication work orders and coordinate directly with customers to schedule initial and ongoing site deliveries.

- Perform routine quality control inspections on incoming raw materials, fabricated parts, and finished rebar to ensure compliance with project specifications.

- Promptly escalate non-conforming materials to superintendents and operations managers, assisting in root-cause analysis and resolution.

- Conduct periodic and scheduled physical inventory counts for both raw rebar stock and finished assemblies.

- Track active project timelines in relation to shop capacity and site schedules to maintain proactive delivery timelines.

- Handle occasional scheduling and logistics coordination for field installers when required.

- Assist with converting CAD drawings into CNC cutting and bending file formats for shop machinery.

- Perform visual weld inspections and dimensional checks on pre-assembled rebar cages prior to shipment.

Qualifications & Competencies





- A completed post-secondary diploma or degree in Construction Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.

- 0 to 2 years of experience in structural detailing, drafting, or reinforcing steel placement.

- Strong foundational skills in AutoCAD software with a track record of producing accurate technical drawings.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data entry, reporting, and tracking.

- Explicit verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal production teams, external engineers, and clients.

- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks between drawing desk work and shop floor duties.

- Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills to resolve field discrepancies, drawing errors, and quality issues.

Nice to Have

- Knowledge of the Reinforcing Steel Manual of Standard Practice is an asset.

- Experience in 3D detailing programs and RebarCAD is an asset.

- Familiarity with metal fabrication machinery, shop floor processes, or welding standards is an asset.
