The Interior Heart & Surgical Centre is seeking a Cardiac Surgical Assistant to join our group.

Located in the city of Kelowna, the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre is the main referral centre for the Interior Health Authority (IH) of British Columbia (population 750,000).

The Cardiac Surgery

Program offers the whole spectrum of cardiac surgical services short of transplantation. There is an 8 bed Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU), 8 bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) and a 16-bed Cardiac Surgery Inpatient (CSIP) ward. Heart transplants and pediatric (child) cardiac surgeries are not performed at KGH.

The Cardiac Surgery

Program is comprised of more than 100 medical and clinical staff, including 5 cardiac surgeons, cardiac anaesthetists, perfusionists, clinical nursing staff, anaesthesia assistants, and support staff.

As the Cardiac Surgical Assistant, you will provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure,



and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a protected operation with optimal results for the patient. It is expected that the Cardiac Surgical Assistant will be able to perform independently in the OR to retrieve vascular conduit. In addition to intraoperative duties, the Cardiac Surgical Assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care.

The Cardiac Surgical

Assistant will also provide on-call services.

In this position, you will also have the opportunity to discover the rewards of clinical teaching with 3rd- and 4th-year medical students of the UBC Southern Medical Program completing 1–2-week rotations with our program.
