Construction Labourer / Apprentice Carpenter

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Wage: $20–$30 per hour, based on experience, demonstrated ability and apprenticeship level

About the position

TWM Developments Inc. is a local residential construction and home-improvement company looking for a dependable Construction Labourer or Apprentice Carpenter to join our team.

Our work is primarily Residential Carpentery including siding, flooring, interior and exterior trim, cabinet installation and general renovation work. Approximately 30% of our work consists of foundations, concrete forming & finishing, and residential framing.

We are open to applicants with construction experience as well as dependable individuals who are interested in starting a career in carpentry. TWM Developments is registered with SkilledTradesBC and can sponsor the right candidate as a Carpenter apprentice.

Responsibilities

Duties will vary according to the employee’s experience and may include:

- Using hand and power tools safely
- Setting up and maintaining safe, organized job sites
- Daily regular trade skills, Measuring, marking and cutting construction materials including using hand tools, power tools, and other trade tools (transits, etc).
- Loading, unloading and moving tools and building materials, ability to lift 35+ pounds while twisting and turning.
- Installing siding, exterior trim, related finishing materials, including caulking & painting.
- Installing flooring, interior trim, doors, cabinets and hardware, and others.




- Assisting with residential framing, foundations and concrete forming & finishing
- Working from measurements, layouts, drawings and instructions
- Completing general construction and labouring duties
- Working cooperatively with other crew members and trades
- Mobile equipment usage once deemed competent. Includes skidsteer, tele handler, MEWP (man lift), Excavators, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

Applicants must

- Apply and be selected under the WorkBC wage subsidy
- Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licence
- Have reliable transportation to work or designated meeting locations
- Supply CSA-approved safety footwear
- Be dependable, punctual and willing to learn
- Be able to follow instructions and work safely
- Be comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather
- Be comfortable working from ladders and at heights
- Be physically capable of lifting and carrying construction materials
- Have basic measuring and construction-math skills, or a willingness to learn them
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada

Construction experience, apprenticeship registration and familiarity with hand or power tools are assets, but they are not required for an entry-level applicant with the right attitude and work ethic.





Apprenticeship and advancement The successful applicant will have opportunities to develop experience across several areas of residential construction. A suitable employee who wants to pursue carpentry as a career may be registered and sponsored as a Carpenter apprentice through SkilledTradesBC with TWM Developments.

Starting wages will reflect current experience and ability. Wage increases will be based on demonstrated skill development, productivity, reliability and apprenticeship progression.

Less-experienced applicants may be invited to complete a short, in office practical skills assessment involving basic measuring and marking. This is an assessment only and will not involve unpaid productive work.

WorkBC wage subsidy

This position is being offered in cooperation with WorkBC. The selected applicant may be required to contact WorkBC and complete wage-subsidy eligibility and application paperwork before beginning employment. Any required WorkBC agreement must be approved before the employee’s first day of work.
