The Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Band 7 Charge Midwife to join the Labour Suite leadership team at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. This key leadership role is responsible for coordinating the delivery of safe, effective and person-centred maternity care across Labour Suite and associated clinical areas. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide clinical and qualified leadership, manage staffing and resources, support service development, and ensure the highest standards of care for women, babies and families.

The successful candidate will also act as a maternity page holder and deputise for the Senior Charge Midwife as required.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

2 x Permanent Roles, 1 x 36 Hours, 1 x 27 Hours (Hours negotiable if not wishing full time)

Monday - Sunday (Day/Nightshift 24/7)

Key Responsibilities The post holder will lead and coordinate the delivery of maternity care on a day-to-day and shift-by-shift basis, ensuring women and their families receive safe, effective and compassionate care.

Responsibilities include managing staffing levels, workload allocation and resources, leading and mentoring a team of midwives, supporting junior staff and students, and acting as a clinical expert in complex and high-risk maternity care. The role requires effective multidisciplinary working to ensure seamless care pathways, participation in clinical governance, quality improvement, audit and research activities, and the management of incidents, risks and complaints in line with NHS policies. The successful candidate will contribute to service development, child protection processes, public health initiatives and the ongoing enhancement of maternity services,



while regularly fulfilling the role of maternity page holder and deputising for the Senior Charge Midwife when required.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

- Registered Midwife with current NMC registration.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
- Experienced within a relevant maternity setting.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Demonstrable expert clinical and professional practice within maternity services.
- Strong leadership, decision-making and team management skills.
- Experience of mentoring, supporting and developing staff and students.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams.
- Evidence of a values-based, compassionate approach to care in line with the NMC Code.
- Knowledge of clinical governance, quality improvement and risk management processes.
- Awareness of child protection responsibilities and safeguarding procedures.
- Computer and information literacy skills.
- Successful completion of the Cleanliness Champions Programme or equivalent.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation, infection prevention and control, COSHH, RIDDOR, fire safety, and moving and handling requirements.
