We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented steel projects estimator to join our team. This is an exciting prospect for a skilled professional with experience estimating steel projects. The successful candidate will play a critical role in accurately forecasting project costs and ensuring competitive, profitable, and successful project execution.

Summary The Estimator assesses the costs, resources, and time required for specific projects. They analyze project requirements, gather data, and use estimation techniques to determine the likely expenses and duration of the project, contributing to informed decision-making and successful project execution. In short, the Estimator is responsible for the day to day preparation of estimates and proposals.

Responsibilities

Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs

Prepare pre-qualification submissions to present clients

Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements

Prepare master format estimates (Class A)

Operate CADD and other computer software systems

Prepare estimates for general expenses and overheads





Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects

Project cash flow and financing requirements

Create and submit estimate reports, quote sheets and bids forms

Utilize quantity take-off procedures

Analyze tenders and recommend awards

Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems

Monitor and adjust contract expenditures

Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates

Requirements A minimum of three years (3 years) experience in estimation/project management in the construction industry (preference given to those with experience in custom steel//bridges//structural work)

Undergraduate degree in engineering or post-secondary diploma in a construction related discipline is considered an asset.

General civil construction knowledge; understanding of plans, specifications, methods and procedures.

Extensive knowledge of the principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take off procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures.

Proven ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
