About Career and Professional Development

Career & Professional Development (CPD) empowers students and alumni to explore, prepare for, and pursue meaningful careers through personalized guidance, experiential learning, and employer engagement. Its purpose is to bridge academic experiences with professional opportunities, fostering lifelong career success and industry connections. CPD is one of five offices on campus providing career development services to a diverse community of DU students and alumni.

CPD serves all the undergraduate programs (except the Daniels College of Business), College of Professional Studies, multiple graduate programs, and alumni not served by the other career services offices on campus.

Position Summary The Director leads strategy across campus and serves as a campus-wide expert resource for career outcomes, student and employer engagement, internship reporting, career technology systems, marketing communications, and event strategy. This role requires a breadth and depth of knowledge, skills, and perspectives that add significant value to the institution and advance the University’s goals related to student success, career readiness, and post-graduate outcomes.

The Director guides career & career development strategy by translating data and engagement insights into actionable recommendations for campus stakeholders while overseeing systems, communications, and programs that connect students, alumni, employers, faculty, and institutional partners. The Director develops and oversees impactful initiatives that support students throughout their career development journey and strengthen alumni engagement as graduates transition from students to alumni.

This role ensures execution of strategy through collaboration with career and employer teams, faculty, academic departments, Institutional Research, Information Technology, Student Employment, Alumni Engagement, Marketing and Communications, and other campus partners. The Director supervises professional staff responsible for analytics, reporting, communications, marketing, and event operations; makes strategic and operational decisions to meet the objectives of career, internship, employer engagement, marketing, and student success initiatives across campus.

The incumbent in this role must be a self-starter who continuously seeks knowledge and skills related to emerging technologies, analytics, communications platforms, and engagement strategies, redesigning processes and workflows to keep pace with institutional priorities and technological advancements. The position represents Career and Professional Development in accreditation activities, strategic planning initiatives, software governance, and institutional reporting efforts.

The incumbent must demonstrate commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through involvement in university and division-wide initiatives and by applying an equity-minded framework to data analysis, communications, engagement strategies, and program development. This role reports directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Career and Professional Development.

Essential Functions

Leadership & Strategic Planning –

Data Strategy

- Develop, implement, and execute strategy for post-graduation and internship data collection and reporting in alignment with national standards.
- Develop programming and engagement strategies that leverage career outcomes and engagement data to strengthen alumni relationships and cultivate a culture of lifelong connection and philanthropy.
- Develop and execute strategy for centralized internship management, approval processes, and reporting.
- Develop, implement, and execute processes for measuring and reporting employer, student, alumni, and career services engagement.
- Supervise and ensure high performance of professional staff responsible for data collection, analysis and reporting.
- Lead strategic planning efforts related to career engagement, technology, communications, and student success initiatives.
- Translate analytics, engagement metrics, and assessment findings into recommendations for university leadership and campus stakeholders.

Marketing & Events
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for Career and Professional Development marketing, communications and events initiatives.




- Collaborate with university marketing and communications partners to strengthen visibility and support institutional objectives.
- Directly supervise Marketing & Events Coordinator, who is responsible for planning and executing marketing, communications and events initiatives.
- Utilize event and participation data to assess effectiveness and inform future programming decisions.

Data Analytics, Assessment & Reporting
- Continuously improve reporting design and analytics capabilities related to outcomes, student engagement, employer engagement, internship participation, longitudinal outcomes, and equity-focused reporting.
- Design and execute reporting strategies for institutional rankings, accreditation, program reviews, and external reporting requirements.
- Design and publish internal reports for Admissions, Board of Trustees, academic leadership, and university departments.
- Collaborate with Institutional Research, Information Technology, Advancement, and other campus partners on strategic data initiatives.
- Analyze relationships among career engagement, internships, experiential learning, communications activities, and post-graduate outcomes.
- Develop dashboards and assessment tools that support data-informed decision-making across Career and Professional Development.

Technology Systems, Governance & Operations
- Ensure high data quality through governance, data architecture, data cleaning, system maintenance, and quality assurance processes.
- Design, implement, and maintain integrations, workflows, data migrations, and automated processes among career services systems and university technologies.
- Manage career services software platforms, configurations, vendor relationships, and system performance.
- Develop use cases, workflow documentation, and implementation plans for new technologies and system enhancements.
- Lead cross-functional teams in establishing best practices for career services technology, data governance, and operational effectiveness.
- Collaborate with Information Technology and campus partners on software selection, implementation, upgrades, and strategic technology planning.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve efficiency, user experience, reporting capabilities, and student engagement.

Software Design, Selection & Innovation
- Serve as subject matter and technical expert for software evaluation, procurement, and implementation initiatives.
- Collaborate with Information Technology and campus stakeholders on strategic technology planning and vendor selection.
- Lead Request for Proposal (RFP) processes, software demonstrations, stakeholder engagement activities, reference checks, and implementation planning.
- Manage software implementations, migrations, testing, training, and change management efforts.
- Analyze budget implications and return on investment for technology and operational solutions.
- Recommend innovative approaches that enhance student engagement, operational efficiency, and institutional effectiveness.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Demonstrated experience with business analytics, data analysis, reporting tools, and database queries as well as a solid understanding of technology systems and applicable software.
- Must be able to gather, transform, analyze, and present data in an organized and meaningful way. Must be able to communicate highly technical problems to non-technical professional staff.
- Strong project management skills: ability to work with deadlines; manage multiple priorities and communicate and work with diverse populations.
- Ability to write use cases and project workflows for campus partners working with career and internship projects, knowledge of program evaluation, research design, survey design and data cleaning.
- Experience supervising, training, and providing feedback on performance to professional staff and/or student employees.
- Must be focused on problem resolution, using creative problem solving and thoughtful, timely decision-making skills.
- Strong relationship skills to lead and support projects across campus units, including nuanced understanding of when to lead and when to support; demonstrated experience presenting data to key organizational leadership.
- Self-starter who continuously seeks knowledge and skills on the most recent systems and can redesign reporting as needed to keep pace with current technology.



Must continually evaluate the effectiveness of databases and internal systems.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and students; commitment to principles of diversity, equity and inclusion; and ability to identify opportunities to improve equity and inclusion from data analysis.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience in in higher education, business analytics, data information technology, or related field (Veterans with equivalent combination of military certification/education and experience may substitute for the degree qualification).
- 5 years of experience in data analysis, information technology, related field or equivalent experience.
- Experience with marketing and/or communications.
- Experience coordinating and executing events
- Supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s degree in business analytics, data information technology, student affairs, higher education, or related field.
- Experience with Banner
- Experience in higher education, preferably Career Services or related field.

Working Environment

- Standard office environment.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. with assistance.

Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., some nights and weekends as required

Salary Grade Number:

The salary grade for the position is 13.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $95,000-$98,715.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
