Why Consider the Educational Assistant – Internship Pathway?

Edmonton Catholic Schools is pleased to offer an Internship Pathway for aspiring Educational Assistants. This supported entry experience is designed to help participants begin their careers with confidence, practical skills, and an increased understanding of inclusive learning communities within our schools.

Through a combination of targeted skilled learning and hands-on experience in schools and classrooms, interns will learn alongside experienced ECSD staff. The pathway is designed to bridge learning with practice, helping participants feel prepared, supported, and connected as they begin their work as Educational Assistants.

Participation in the Internship Pathway requires a full-time commitment for the entire five-week program. Upon successful completion and certification, participants are expected to extend employment with Edmonton Catholic Schools and continue their journey as an Educational Assistant within our Division.

Job Responsibilities

- Assist the teacher with planning, preparing, and implementing programs to meet student needs
- Organize classroom materials, activities, equipment, and programs
- Assist the multi-disciplinary team with the implementation of developmental strategies
- Behaviour management
- Provide a range of personal and physical care
- Assist co-workers during peak periods and absences

Requirements

- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with children is considered an asset
- Current resume
- 3 professional references
- A current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- A current Child Intervention Record Check
- Ability to travel to sites within Edmonton
