Role Description The IBM AIX Administrator is a full-time, remote based role responsible for managing and maintaining IBM AIX systems in support of secure and reliable business operations. This role includes installing, configuring, and upgrading AIX operating systems and related software, as well as monitoring system performance and capacity to ensure optimal uptime. The administrator will perform regular system backups and recovery procedures, apply patches and security updates, and implement hardening practices aligned with Krystal Sekurity’s cybersecurity standards.

Day-to-day responsibilities involve the installation, configuration, patching and Tunning AIX operating systems, ensuring system availability, and responding to hardware or OS incidents so applications run reliably for users and business processes. The role also includes documenting system configurations and procedures, participating in change management processes, and contributing to continuous improvement of infrastructure and security controls.

- Virtualization with PowerVM: logical partitions (LPAR) creation, virtual I/O servers (VIOS), virtual adapters, and spares for capacity management and live migration.

- Performance monitoring and tuning: nmon, topas, vmstat, iostat, sar, and knowledge of CPU binding, memory tuning, and disk I/O optimization for AIX workloads.
- Backup, recovery, and disaster recovery: experience with IBM Spectrum Protect (Tivoli), Snapshot tools, and scripted recovery procedures; design and test DR runbooks and replication strategies.
- Scripting and automation: shell scripting (ksh/bash), Perl or Python for admin tasks, and automation frameworks such as Ansible with custom modules for AIX.
- Security hardening and compliance: SSH key management, RBAC, audit controls, STIG/CIS benchmarks for AIX, PAM configuration, and patch/privilege management.
- Networking for AIX: tcp/ip stack tuning, VLANs, link aggregation (trunking), NFS and SMB client/server configuration, and troubleshooting network-related I/O issues.
- High-availability and clustering: IBM PowerHA (formerly HACMP) configuration, failover testing, and designing HA topologies for stateful applications.
- Log and event management: syslog, audit logs, integration with centralized monitoring/observability stacks (ELK, Splunk), and scripting for alerting and remediation.
