Machine Shop Helper / CNC Operator Trainee

Position Summary The Machine Shop Student Helper supports the manufacturing team with material handling, shop upkeep, documentation, and job preparation. This is an entry-level, hands-on role for anyone interested in the machining trade. No experience is required, as full training will be provided, including training to operate our CNC machines.

Key Responsibilities

- Cut and prepare raw material to specified sizes as directed by shop staff
- Load and unload parts on CNC machines and monitor machine operation (training provided)
- Clean and maintain the shop area, including workstations, floors, and common areas, to uphold safety and housekeeping standards




- Package, label, and organize finished or in-process materials for shipment or storage
- Prepare daily documentation for scheduled work orders and jobs
- Create and organize job carts/kits with the materials and paperwork needed for upcoming jobs
- Assist machinists and shop staff with general tasks as assigned
- Follow all shop safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Perform other general labour and support duties as needed

Training & Growth

You will be trained on shop machinery, including CNC machine operation, under the supervision of experienced staff. As your skills develop, you'll take on more responsibility on the machines, with opportunities for wage increases/promotions. This is a great starting point for anyone considering a career as a machinist.

Qualifications

- No experience required, but an interest in machining or manufacturing is an asset
- Solid work ethic and willingness to perform physical, hands-on tasks
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions
- Basic organizational and communication skills
- Ability to lift materials up to approximately 30 lbs and stand for extended periods

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing shop and involves exposure to machinery, tools, and materials. Safety training and PPE will be provided.

Pay

$20-$23/h

Schedule

Part-time/Full time. Shifts are available on weekdays (mornings, afternoons, and evenings) and weekends.
