As a faith- and values-based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life - there is a place for everyone to belong here.Mission StatementThe Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.:This position is for 3 months, may extend.POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:The role supports the Outreach Program and is responsible for operating the program under the direction of the Supervisor.RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:Contact those experiencing homelessness and develop trusting relationshipsAssess needs of clients on caseload and connect them with the appropriate service, including shelter, housing, addictions, mental health, etc.Record and maintain statistical information regarding the Outreach Program within parameters set by The Salvation Army and fundersNetwork with community agencies to aid in outreach potentialEnsure proper maintenance of outreach vehicleFacilitate commencement of client action plan and monitor dailyPerform all necessary clerical duties for client documentation, including Service Forms, computer entries, and logbook entriesEnforce agency rules and expectations consistentlyAttend all authorized seminars,



staff meetings and training sessions as requestedPerform other work-related duties as assignedORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values & philosophy of The Salvation Army and the GatewayParticipate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in-service TrainingEngage in formal Evaluations Sessions with Supervisor at 3 months during first year of employment and annually thereafterRead and follow the Policy & Procedures Manual and the Employees Handbook. Every employee must read (and sign that they have read) a copy of Hostel Standards & Guidelines and understand that they will be required to adhere to all guidelines in their dealings with Clients as well as with Staff and AdministrationBecome familiar with the provisions of the position description & operations manual which will be provided for each job positionAs required and is applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to managementRepresent the organization in a professional mannerThe above responsibilities are to be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a skilled manner, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct.CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:Reports to the Outreach SupervisorWORKING CONDITIONS:Wednesday to Sunday40 hours per weekOutreach activities completed while hiking parks, transportation corridors and ravine lands in all weather conditionsSome administrative duties onsite at 107 Jarvis St.EDUCATION,



QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:High School Graduate with some further education in social sciences field or equivalent experienceCertification in CPR/First AidCertification in Crisis InterventionClear criminal records checkHostel Standards Training Certificate an asset.Valid Driver’s LicenseNOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptableEXPERIENCE AND SKILLED KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge and understanding of homelessness, addictions and mental healthStrong working knowledge of community resourcesBasic computer and clerical skillsStrong command of English language and interpersonal skillsAbility to function as a team memberPossess excellent problem-solving skillsSKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job including extensive walking, outdoor work in a variety of public locations, including streets, parks, ravines, under bridges and taking public transit, while carrying a backpack with outreach gear to provide services and supports to people who are homeless.Compensation:The target hiring range for this position is $21.28 to $26.60 with a maximum of $31.92.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
