Program Management Consultant – Retail Transformation

Consulting / Independent Contractor Engagement | Ontario | 6-9 Months +

Giant Tiger is looking for an experienced Program Management Consultant – Retail Transformation to join a high-priority business and store transformation initiative.

This is an independent consulting engagement and not employment with Giant Tiger. The successful consultant will provide services as an independent contractor and will invoice Giant Tiger for services provided under a consulting services agreement.

We are looking for someone who can step into a complex transformation already underway, quickly establish the structure and discipline required for delivery, and work alongside senior leaders and cross-functional teams to move the program forward.

The right person will bring deep program management experience, practical Agile expertise and, ideally, experience delivering transformation within a multi-store retail environment.

The mandate

You will lead the program management and execution of a complex, cross-functional retail transformation, translating established strategic direction into an integrated delivery plan and driving execution across multiple interconnected workstreams.

Working closely with the Program Lead and Workstream Leads, you will create the pace, visibility and discipline required to keep the overall program moving—connecting plans, surfacing dependencies and risks, facilitating decisions and ensuring teams deliver against agreed commitments.

This is a hands-on delivery role. We are looking for someone who can quickly understand the work, identify what is needed, establish effective ways of working and drive execution without requiring significant direction.

What you'll be brought in to do

- Build and actively manage an integrated program plan connecting workstreams, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, critical paths and key decision points.
- Establish and lead a practical Agile delivery approach, including sprint planning, workstream cadences, backlog management, prioritization, retrospectives and iterative delivery.
- Drive execution across interconnected workstreams and maintain momentum against agreed outcomes and timelines.




- Lead cross-functional planning and working sessions, helping senior leaders and teams move from competing perspectives to clear decisions, ownership and action.
- Identify and actively manage program risks, dependencies, resource constraints and changing priorities.
- Surface trade-offs and decisions requiring leadership direction, bringing forward clear recommendations and implications.
- Maintain visibility to the critical path and recommend changes to sequencing, resources or delivery plans as requirements evolve.
- Drive implementation readiness across workstreams ahead of key milestones.
- Provide concise, decision-oriented program reporting and insights to senior leadership.
- Establish fit-for-purpose program management tools, including integrated plans, decision logs, action trackers and risk/issue management.
- Support effective knowledge transfer to internal teams as the engagement progresses.

These expectations reflect the core delivery accountabilities in the role design, particularly Agile delivery, cross-functional execution, executive decision support, critical-path management and implementation readiness.

What we're looking for

You have significant experience stepping into complex enterprise transformation programs and getting them moving.

Ideally, you bring:

- Extensive senior-level program/project management experience leading complex business transformations with multiple interconnected workstreams.
- Retail and store transformation experience, ideally involving implementation across multiple operating locations.
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience applying Agile delivery methods in complex business environments—not simply Agile certification.
- Robust experience managing integrated program plans, critical paths, dependencies, risks,



resource constraints and executive reporting.
- Experience operating in ambiguity where priorities and requirements continue to evolve through delivery.
- Strong executive and cross-functional facilitation skills, including the ability to challenge constructively and move groups toward decisions.
- The judgment to determine when additional process or governance is required—and when it would simply slow the work down.
- The ability to become productive quickly and operate with a high degree of independence.
- Agile, Scrum, PMP, SAFe or comparable certification is an asset. Demonstrated experience applying the methodologies in practice is more important to us than the credential itself.

The engagement

This is a time-limited consulting/contract engagement supporting a priority Giant Tiger transformation initiative.

We are looking for someone who can begin quickly and become embedded with the program team to provide hands-on program leadership through planning and implementation. This role will be able to work remotely from home, from our Ottawa, Ontario Home Office and there will be travel to stores in Ontario.

Location: Ontario

Anticipated start: As soon as possible

Anticipated duration: 6–9 months, with potential to extend

Anticipated workload: Approximately 40 billable hours per week

Anticipated budget: $90–$110 CAD per hour, based on experience and proposed consulting rate The consultant will invoice Giant Tiger for approved services provided in accordance with the consulting agreement. Applicable taxes will be addressed as part of the agreement.
