Registered Veterinary Technician — Part-Time

Barrie Animal Hospital is looking for a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our team!

This is a casual position working 3–4 shifts every other week, on one of the following schedules:

- Friday, Saturday & Sunday
- Saturday, Sunday & Monday

If you’re compassionate, organized, quick-thinking, and just as comfortable comforting a nervous pet parent as you are placing an IV catheter, we’d love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

As an RVT, you’ll be an important advocate for our patients and a friendly, knowledgeable face for their families. Your days may include:

- Providing exceptional patient care using Fear Free and low-stress handling
- Greeting clients, gathering histories, taking TPRs and weights, and helping pets feel safe
- Administering medications, SQ fluids, insulin, and other treatments within your scope
- Collecting samples and running in-house laboratory diagnostics
- Performing urinalysis, fecals, cytology, bloodwork and other diagnostic testing
- Assisting with dentistry and surgical procedures
- Inducing and monitoring anesthesia and safely recovering patients
- Triaging urgent and emergency cases and assisting with stabilization
- Caring for hospitalized patients and keeping doctors updated on their progress
- Performing digital radiography and maintaining imaging records
- Conducting technician appointments such as nail trims, ear care, anal glands, suture removals and rechecks




- Helping clients with nutrition, parasite prevention, vaccinations, dentistry, puppy/kitten care, behaviour and Fear Free education
- Keeping medical records accurate, complete and up to date
- Helping keep treatment, surgery and the hospital setting clean, organized and ready for action

In other words, you'll wear a lot of hats—but probably not literally, unless it's a very fashionable surgical cap.

You Might Be Our Kind of RVT If...

You are

- A Registered Veterinary Technician in good standing with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO)
- An excellent communicator who can explain medical information clearly and compassionately
- Comfortable working with both four-legged patients and two-legged clients
- Calm, organized and able to prioritize when things get busy
- Confident with animal handling and Fear Free, low-stress techniques
- A problem solver who can think on their feet (even when the patient is trying to leave the room)
- Comfortable with anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, laboratory work, imaging and nursing care
- Detail-oriented when it comes to medications, records, diagnostics and charges
- Comfortable using practice-management software such as AVImark
- Committed to continuing education and providing excellent patient care

Veterinary medicine isn't always puppy kisses and kitten cuddles—and we know that.

This role can involve urgent care, emotionally difficult conversations, standing for extended periods, lifting and handling patients, exposure to cleaning and anesthetic agents, radiation, and the occasional bite, scratch or "surprise" from a patient who strongly disagrees with your treatment plan.

You'll need to be able to stay composed, communicate clearly and work safely as part of a team.
