About The West Coast Fishing Club The West Coast Fishing Club operates two luxury saltwater fishing lodges in Haida Gwaii. Position Overview The Maintenance Technician helps keep the WCFC Clubhouse Lodge protected, reliable, and ready for guests and staff. Working under the direction of the General Manager, this position supports the operation, inspection, repair, and improvement of the lodge's mechanical systems, utilities, buildings, equipment, and appliances.

This is a hands-on role in a remote environment. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently, coordinating with other departments, and responding quickly when an equipment or facility issue affects lodge operations. The position includes both in-season and off-season assignments, with shift work and extended stays on Langara Island.

Equipment and Systems The Maintenance Technician supports a broad range of lodge infrastructure and equipment. Experience across several of the following areas is expected:

•Reverse osmosis water makers, pumps, filtration equipment, storage tanks, and water-distribution systems.

•Diesel generators, diesel boilers, domestic hot-water systems, furnaces, and associated fuel and control systems.

•Commercial and residential washers, propane dryers, ovens, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, and other kitchen or laundry appliances.

•Electrical distribution, lighting, controls, wiring, outlets, and related equipment, with regulated work completed only by appropriately qualified personnel.

•Hot tubs, saunas, showers, toilets, plumbing fixtures, drains, and other guest and staff facilities.

•Gasoline-powered trucks, utility vehicles, selected heavy equipment, tools, and machinery used in lodge operations.

•Decking, stairs, railings, exterior structures, staff accommodations, guest areas, and general lodge facilities.

•Marine-related equipment and systems that support lodge transportation, waterfront activity, and day-to-day marine operations.

Key Responsibilities

•Operate, inspect, service, and troubleshoot diesel generators and related power systems.





•Monitor and maintain reverse osmosis water systems, pumps, plumbing, hot-water equipment, and wastewater-related systems within the scope of training and certification.

•Assist with electrical, gas, furnace, heating, and ventilation work within the limits of applicable qualifications and regulations.

•Complete carpentry, drywall, painting, finishing, and general building repairs throughout the lodge and staff areas.

•Maintain and repair small and large appliances, tools, vehicles, machinery, and other lodge equipment as assigned.

•Support safe diesel and gasoline receiving, storage, transfer, and refuelling for generators, vehicles, equipment, and marine operations in accordance with established procedures.

•Assist with the maintenance and operational readiness of marine-support equipment, docks, and related waterfront facilities as assigned.

•Carry out regular inspections and preventive maintenance to identify issues before they interrupt operations.

•Diagnose faults, complete practical repairs, and escalate specialized work when outside the position's qualifications or available resources.

•Keep maintenance areas, tools, parts, and supplies organized, safe, and ready for use.

•Record maintenance activities, equipment condition, repairs, and parts requirements, and communicate priorities to the Maintenance Manager.

•Support maintenance projects and property improvements during both the operating season and off season.

•Follow safe work practices and applicable procedures when using tools, chemicals, machinery, fuels, and pressurized or electrical systems.

•Work cooperatively with lodge management and all departments to support smooth day-to-day operations.

Seasonal and Off Season Work

During the operating season, the Maintenance Technician focuses on reliable day-to-day operations, preventive maintenance, urgent repairs, and guest- and staff-related service needs. The role may require after-hours or emergency response on a rotating basis.

During the off season, the work shifts toward winterization, inspections, scheduled servicing, repairs, upgrades, project work, inventory planning, and preparation for the next season.



Hours and rotations may vary with operational requirements, weather, transportation, and project schedules.

Required Qualifications and Attributes

•Practical maintenance experience involving diesel generators or boilers, carpentry and drywall, reverse osmosis water systems, electrical systems, plumbing, appliances, vehicles, or equipment operation.

•Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to assess problems, set priorities, and complete work with limited on-site resources.

•Ability to organize maintenance work over the course of a season and follow through on routine, preventive, and corrective tasks.

•Willingness and ability to live and work at a remote lodge for extended periods and to work shift schedules, long days, weekends, and holidays as required.

•Availability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to urgent maintenance issues at any hour during the operating season.

•Clear communication skills, sound judgment, a strong work ethic, and a team-focused approach.

•Commitment to workplace safety, proper use of personal protective equipment, and working within the limits of one's qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

•Previous maintenance experience at a remote lodge, resort, camp, marine operation, or similar property.

•Red Seal endorsement, journeyperson certification, or other recognized training in a relevant trade.

•Experience with several building and mechanical systems rather than a single trade specialty.

Physical and Work Environment The position involves indoor and outdoor work in changing coastal weather. Duties may include standing for extended periods, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, working in confined or mechanical spaces, using hand and power tools, and lifting or moving equipment and supplies. Candidates must be able to perform the essential duties safely, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
