About Us

The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of seven Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Communication Sciences and Disorders and Food and Nutritional Sciences), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and four Research Centers. The Faculty has more than 4,000 undergraduate students and more than 900 graduate students (200 PhD students).

The School of Kinesiology at Western will be recognized globally as a leader in research and education through a multidisciplinary approach to Kinesiology. The School of Kinesiology at Western advocates the benefits of physical activity to society by providing a multidisciplinary approach to discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge about human movement and its effects. It also has a history of disciplinary (e.g. biomechanics, exercise physiology, history, management, psychology, sociology) around physical activity.

Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will apply their expertise and knowledge to technical projects, and find creative, cost-effective means to conduct and improve research, techniques, technologies, and products. The incumbent will be accountable for designing, developing, conducting, and evaluating new approaches to ensure research and project objectives are met. The Research Engineer will be responsible for associated laboratory work,



and will generate, evaluate and analyze data, prepare and present reports and findings.

- Motion Capture Data Processing

- Musculoskeletal Imaging (custom workflows)

- Training students

- Must be able to operate and train students on use of Qualisys Motion Capture system, visual 3D software, and conduct advanced musculoskeletal imaging analyses (MRI and ultrasound)

Qualifications

Education

- Master's degree in a relevant discipline, PhD in relevant position preferred

Experience

- 3 years' working experience in a related academic research environment
- Work on postdoctoral research portfolio, directly related to the research focus preferred

- Communication skills with the ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Advanced skills in software and applications supporting the research development and analysis
- Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
- Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment

- Oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on proposal development and presentation
