As our dealership continues to grow, having accurate financial reporting, tight internal controls, and dependable month-end and year-end processes is essential to making sound business decisions, managing cash flow, and staying compliant.

This role is central to that mission: the person in this position will help ensure our financial foundation stays solid so we can continue to invest in inventory, people, and the customer experience with confidence.

About the Role

Southwest Marine + Powersports is looking for a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. This is a full-time, in office role located in Grand Bend, ON. This position is at the heart of our dealership's financial operations and will report directly to the Controller. This individual oversees day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, bank and account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end closing activities.

The Senior

Accountant prepares financial statements, reports, and analyses to support management decision-making and ensures compliance with relevant accounting standards and tax regulations. Additional responsibilities include budgeting and forecasting support, monitoring internal controls, and recommending process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency in financial workflows. while also contributing to the bigger picture of financial reporting and internal controls that support our long-term growth.

What You'll Do

Financial Reporting & Close

- Lead month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules
- Investigate and resolve complex accounting discrepancies and issues
- Contribute to the development and implementation of accounting policies and internal controls

Floorplan & Lender Management

- Payout units as sold and record transactions in accounting system for all floorplan lenders
- Track floorplan balances, prepare floorplan payouts for management approval, and maintain monthly interest and ending balance reporting
- Record funding from finance deals across Yamaha, Honda, and third-party lenders

Account Reconciliations

- Maintain reconciliation of key GL accounts
- Perform daily cash and deposit verification
- Reconcile warranty and rebate accounts across multiple OEM partners
- Ensure AR/AP/major-unit sub-ledgers remain in balance with the general ledger

Accounts Receivable & Collections

- Manage internal and customer AR accounts, reverse finance charges, and coordinate collections
- Monitor internal department AR accounts and employee accounts
- Quarterly review of parts & accessories purchase discounts for compliance

Warranty & Vendor Coordination

- Process and track warranty claims, matching credit/debit memos with service department records
- Submit co-op claims and track remaining balances
- Maintain inventory costing spreadsheets, including cross-border costing for U.S. marine units

Other Key Responsibilities

- Maintain Capital Asset Schedule
- General troubleshooting and correction of Lightspeed (LS) accounting system issues

What We're Looking For

- Strong accounting background,



ideally with equipment/marine/powersports dealership experience, or inventory-heavy business experience
- 3-5+ years of accounting experience required
- Relevant post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional designation (CPA or equivalent) is an asset
- Strong proficiency in core accounting functions, including general ledger management, financial reporting, and account reconciliations
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic and operational decisions
- Experience leading month-end/year-end close and preparing financial statements
- High attention to detail and comfort managing multiple reconciliations and deadlines simultaneously
- Proficiency with Lightspeed EVO (our accounting/dealer management software) would be considered a significant asset
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong organizational and communication skills for coordinating with lenders, OEM partners, and internal departments
- Trustworthy and discreet, given oversight of cash handling and sensitive financial accounts
