Structural Engineer

Tomlinson is currently searching for a motivated and energetic individual to join our in-house engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, drafting, and inspection of various temporary structures required during heavy civil construction projects, and for general engineering support for all Tomlinson divisions.

Location: 100 Citigate Drive, Ottawa, ON

Vacancy Type: Replacement

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Structural analysis of various temporary systems such as formwork, falsework, shoring, scaffolding, etc.
- Design and drafting of the abovementioned temporary systems using relevant Canadian design codes
- Perform site inspections and provide quality verification engineering services
- Provide site supervision and technical support to Project Managers as required
- Writing of field reports or certificate of conformances after site inspections
- Writing of technical memos

REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
- Master’s degree would be considered an asset
- Must have at least 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience in bridge construction is preferred
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of Ontario
- Experience in steel, wood, and reinforced concrete design
- Extensive knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code
- Experience using AutoCAD
- Experience using various structural analysis programs such as SAP2000,



DeepEx, Hilti Profis, etc.
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Work in both an office setting as well as travelling to various sites across Ottawa and Eastern Ontario
- Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license
- Must have a vehicle and be able to travel to various construction sites

COMPENSATION INFORMATION: The expected range for this position is $75,000 - $95,000 annually. Placement within the range is dependent on a variety of factors including qualifications and experience.
