As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a Sustainability Analyst to help us understand, measure, and improve the environmental performance of our operations.

You will work closely with operations, fabrication, purchasing, sales, and management to collect and analyze data, identify environmental impacts, develop practical sustainability initiatives, and build the foundation for future ESG and sustainability reporting.

What You'll Do

Sustainability & Environmental Data

- Collect, organize, validate, and analyze data related to energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, materials, waste, recycling, water, transportation, and other environmental indicators.
- Establish and maintain reliable processes for collecting sustainability and operational data.
- Perform data-quality checks, investigate anomalies, and improve the accuracy and consistency of reported information.
- Identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for reducing environmental impacts and operating costs.
- Develop sustainability KPIs and dashboards to help management understand performance over time.

GHG Accounting & Carbon

- Support the development and maintenance of the company's greenhouse gas inventory and carbon footprint.
- Learn and apply established GHG accounting principles to estimate Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and help assess relevant Scope 3 categories where appropriate.
- Collect activity data such as electricity, natural gas, fuel, transportation, materials, and waste to support emissions calculations.
- Research appropriate emissions factors and document assumptions, methodologies, data sources, and calculations.
- Identify opportunities for carbon reduction, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and operational improvement.
- Support future carbon-reduction planning and sustainability initiatives.

Sustainable Manufacturing

- Work with the production team to understand material flows and identify opportunities to improve material efficiency and reduce scrap and waste.
- Analyze opportunities related to steel utilization, metal scrap, recycling, packaging, transportation, energy consumption, and other operational activities.
- Help evaluate practical sustainability improvements and estimate their potential environmental and financial benefits.




- Support initiatives that improve resource efficiency without compromising product quality, safety, or customer requirements.
- Where relevant, contribute to environmental baseline assessments and improvement projects.

ESG & Sustainability Reporting

- Support the development of internal sustainability reports, presentations, dashboards, and management updates.
- Research relevant ESG reporting frameworks, sustainability standards, climate disclosure developments, and industry best practices.
- Monitor relevant provincial and federal environmental requirements and identify developments that may affect the business.
- Help organize documentation and evidence required to support sustainability-related claims and reporting.
- Translate technical sustainability information into clear, practical business insights.

Research & Analysis

- Research topics including carbon markets, carbon credits, renewable energy, environmental regulations, sustainable materials, circular economy practices, and low-carbon manufacturing.
- Assess emerging sustainability practices and determine which may be relevant to a custom metal fabrication business.
- Support analysis of potential environmental initiatives using basic cost-benefit analysis and business-case development.
- Where appropriate, assist with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) or product-level environmental-impact analysis.
- Monitor developments in sustainability standards and Canadian environmental policy.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Work directly with operations, fabrication, purchasing, sales, installation, and management teams.
- Ask questions, understand how work is actually performed, and connect operational activities to environmental impacts.
- Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Help turn sustainability goals into practical actions that can be implemented within the business.

You do not need to know everything about ESG on day one. We value someone who can learn quickly, work with data, ask good questions, and take ownership of projects.

Qualifications

- Post-secondary education in Sustainability, Environmental Science,



Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, Engineering, Business Analytics, Operations, Economics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- Strong interest in sustainability, ESG, carbon accounting, climate, or sustainable manufacturing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working with Excel and large or messy datasets.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Ability to research unfamiliar topics and turn information into practical conclusions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with different teams.
- Comfortable asking questions, learning from operational teams, and working in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
- Ability to organize information, document methodologies, and maintain clear records.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Experience That Would Be an Asset
- Experience with GHG accounting or greenhouse gas inventories.
- Familiarity with the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, ESG reporting, sustainability reporting, or climate disclosures.
- Experience with sustainability or environmental data collection and analysis.
- Knowledge of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other data visualization tools.
- Experience with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) or environmental impact assessment.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and policies in Ontario or Canada.
- Familiarity with GRI, SASB/ISSB, TCFD, CSRD, or other sustainability reporting frameworks.
- Experience with environmental cost-benefit analysis or sustainability business cases.
- Sustainability-related courses, certifications, or professional training.

What Success Looks Like In this role, you will gradually help Ornate Ironworks & Decor build a stronger understanding of its environmental footprint.

Pay: $56,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
