Per yearClassification.8 (30 hours per week)JOB SUMMARYThe primary role of the Executive Director (ED) is to provide successful leadership of CMHA-SOS according to the vision and strategic direction as set by the Board of Directors. Reporting directly to the Board, the Executive Director leads the organization and a diverse team in supporting a positive and inclusive culture based on CMHA-SOS Values. The Executive Director needs to be a strong communicator and change leader with a commitment to continuous improvement in the provision of mental health and substance use services. The Executive Director should understand the social context of mental health and substance use as well as the social determinants of health and wellbeing.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIESLeadershipParticipate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organizationIdentify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organization and recommend strategies as appropriateAct as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization's activitiesIn conjunction with the Chair of the Board, act as a spokesperson for the organizationConduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board as appropriate and jointly with the Board when appropriateAs directed, work with sub-committees that are established by the BoardIn collaboration with the Board, update Governance policies as requiredTake responsibility for the professional development of all staff members, ensuring relevant training, coaching and mentoring is available as appropriateBe an effective team leader for all employees, including volunteers, building relationships where necessary,



to achieve a unified team spirit and sense of purposeOperational planning and managementDevelop an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that are aligned with the strategic direction of the organizationEnsure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of its clients, Board and FundersOversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organizationOversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organization's programs and services to ensure the effective utilization of resources for achievement of the strategic planEnsure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the priorities of the strategic planSet up a process to monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organization to maintain or improve qualityOversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projectsOversee Health and Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, develop and implement safety policies, and promote a culture of safety within the organization.Financial planning and managementManage an annual budget of approximately $800,000Work with staff and the Board (Finance Committee)



to prepare a comprehensive budgetSecure adequate funding for the operation of the organizationWork with the Executive Assistant and Finance Committee to track variances from the budget and take appropriate action where necessaryWork with the Executive Assistant and Finance Committee to ensure that the appropriate financial controls are adhered to and advise the Board when action is necessaryResearch funding sources and oversee the development of fundraising and other revenue generation plans to increase the funds of the organizationDemonstrated ability to research, write, and submit successful grant applications, securing funding from various sources to support organizational initiatives.Community relations/advocacyCommunicate with external stakeholders (government, funders, community members, partners) to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organizationEstablish good working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organizationLiaison with Landlord regarding building maintenanceLiaison with CMHA BC Division and other CMHA branchesQUALIFICATIONSEducation, Training & ExperienceBachelors degree in social work, social sciences, business or equivalent combination of experience and education5 + years progressive senior leadership in social services sector or equivalentExperience managing staff teamsand ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations.Proven track record in overseeing the maintenance, operations, and improvements of facilities and buildings, ensuring they meet safety, regulatory, and operational standards.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/ voluntary organizationsKnowledge of federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizationsKnowledge of human resources managementKnowledge of financial managementKnowledge of project managementCMHA-SOS is committed to building an inclusive workplace and community and seek candidates who share our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
