E-2026-27 SP-03 - Specialized ProgrammingJOB POSTING #E-2026-27 SP-03 RESPECIALIZED PROGRAMMING TEACHER (1.0 FTE)NORTHERN HEIGHTS PUBLIC SCHOOLEFFECTIVE DATE: SEPTEMBER 2026DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLEAs a resource teacher, the Specialized Programming Teacher provides direct instruction to an assigned caseload of students who are withdrawn from the regular classroom to participate in programming blocks. Specialized programming support will focus on alternative programming (e.G. self-regulation, social skills) outlined in an Individual Education Plan, or additional support for modified academic programming focused on literacy and numeracy. Many students on caseload will require support in both areas.The Specialized Programming Teacher model is offered at specific schools to support students within their home school community. Programming will be specific to the caseload needs of the school site.Skills and Experience Required:Special Ed Part One required, Specialist preferred)Training in, or willingness to participate in training to deliver the Empower Reading program if requested.Experience developing and implementing IEPs, Behaviour Management Plans, and/or Safety PlansExperience in the use of high-yield strategies to develop and implement a range of programming interventions, strategies, and resourcesExcellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to use a variety of computer applications and softwareInterpersonal skills that would facilitate working effectively with students, staff, parents, and community agenciesKnowledge of legislation, regulations, policy & program memoranda, and ADSB policies, procedures and practices pertaining to special educationDuties will include but are not limited to:Develop, implement,



and monitor special education programming and services to address the specific needs of individual studentsCollaborate with other school-based and system-based staff to support the achievement and well- being of students with special education needsCommunicate as necessary with system-based staff, school-based staff, and/or parent/guardians regarding Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Management Plans, Safety Plans and/or other programmingPrepare pertinent documentation, including completion of alternative report cards for studentsGather and provide reports, documents and statistical information as requiredParticipate in career development and/or training as requiredProject a positive image of special education programs and services in the BoardOther duties as may be assignedThe Algoma District School Board is committed to an equitable education system that upholds and reflects the principles of fair and inclusive education.
