Aplin has partnered with an established Canadian manufacturer serving the nuclear industry to recruit a Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Mechanical for its Niagara Falls, Ontario operation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical/manufacturing engineering professional who enjoys working close to production and translating complex engineering requirements into practical, executable manufacturing solutions. The successful candidate will play an integral role within the Fabrication Engineering team, converting customer and design requirements into production-ready fabrication packages while working closely with Production, Quality, Procurement and Engineering. The OpportunityThe Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Mechanical will bridge the gap between engineering design and shop-floor execution. You will be responsible for developing and releasing fabrication drawings, material bills of materials, manufacturing sequences, ERP routings and production orders while supporting tooling, fixtures, equipment selection and manufacturing process improvements. This is a hands-on engineering position suited to someone who understands how components are actually manufactured and can identify and resolve manufacturability challenges before they affect production.Key ResponsibilitiesReview and interpret customer design specifications, fabrication specifications and technical requirementsIdentify and resolve design ambiguities and manufacturability constraints early in the project lifecycleProvide real-time engineering support to resolve fabrication and production challengesDevelop, review and release general arrangement and detailed fabrication drawing packagesEnsure fabrication packages are technically accurate, complete and ready for productionDevelop and maintain accurate material Bills of Materials (BOMs), including material specifications and piece-part processing requirementsWork closely with Procurement regarding material requirements, supplier capabilities and sourcing considerationsParticipate in design and manufacturability reviews for new and existing productsApply Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly and Design for Inspection principlesRecommend practical design alternatives that improve manufacturability, quality, cost, safety and production efficiencyDevelop manufacturing routings, fabrication sequences and operation requirements in collaboration with ProductionCreate and maintain production orders, ERP BOMs and manufacturing routingsDevelop QC inspection requirements and support appropriate in-process inspection parametersDesign jigs, fixtures and tooling to improve safety, quality, efficiency and manufacturing repeatabilityEvaluate fabrication methods and manufacturing capabilities based on cost, schedule,
quality and safety requirementsSupport equipment and tooling selection for manufacturing operationsParticipate in plant equipment and machine design associated with capital and operational improvement projectsPerform tolerance stack-up studies, fit-up evaluations and assembly interference assessmentsSupport continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and manufacturing operationsQualificationsBachelor's degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related mechanical engineering discipline7+ years of relevant engineering experience combining mechanical design/CAD with practical manufacturing or fabrication experienceExperience within a heavy fabrication, industrial manufacturing, engineered equipment or similar production environment strongly preferredC.E.T. or EIT designation considered an assetStrong hands-on SolidWorks and PDM experienceStrong understanding of mechanical drafting and fabrication drawingsDemonstrated understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Inspection (DFI)Robust knowledge of manufacturing processes including welding, machining, forming, coating and mechanical assemblyAbility to interpret GD&T and welding symbolsExperience developing and maintaining multi-level BOMs, manufacturing routings and production orders within an ERP environmentExperience evaluating fabrication processes and selecting appropriate manufacturing methodsExperience with tolerance stack-up analysis, fit-up evaluations and assembly interference assessmentsExperience with SolidWorks Simulation or other Finite Element Analysis tools is preferredSolidWorks Inspection experience is considered an assetPlant equipment or machine design experience is considered an assetProficiency with Microsoft Office and experience working with ERP systemsNuclear and Code ExperiencePrevious nuclear manufacturing experience is highly desirable but is not necessarily required for a candidate with strong heavy fabrication and manufacturing engineering experience.Knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code requirements, including Sections II, III and VIII, as well as CSA N285, CSA N299, B51 or other applicable nuclear and pressure-boundary standards, is considered a significant asset.Candidates coming from other highly regulated manufacturing environments such as pressure vessels, power generation, aerospace, defence,
heavy industrial equipment or engineered-to-order manufacturing may also be well suited to the opportunity. What You BringYou are a practical, production-focused engineer who is comfortable moving between engineering drawings and the manufacturing floor. You understand that a successful design must not only meet technical requirements—it must also be manufacturable, inspectable, safe and efficient to produce. You bring strong problem‐solving and decision‐making capabilities, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven manufacturing environment. You communicate effectively with engineers, production personnel, quality professionals, procurement teams and other stakeholders. You also demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety, product quality and continuous improvement.Success in the RoleSuccess will be measured by the accuracy and timely release of fabrication drawing packages, BOMs and production orders; minimizing engineering-related production interruptions and rework; maintaining strong technical and quality compliance; and identifying opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment and engineering cycle times. Why Consider This OpportunityThis position provides the opportunity to work on technically complex, highly engineered products within Canada's growing nuclear manufacturing sector. You will have direct visibility into how your engineering work translates into shop-floor execution and will play an important role in improving manufacturability, production readiness, quality and operational performance. If you are a Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineer with strong SolidWorks capabilities and practical heavy fabrication experience who enjoys solving real-world manufacturing challenges, Aplin would welcome the opportunity to speak with you.Compensation Range: $ 110 to $ 120 K base per year plus competitive benefits program,Applicant RequirementsApplicants must currently reside in Canada and be legally authorized to work for any employer without sponsorship.
