Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking a Carpenter/Journeyman to join their highly skilled team to work a Fly In / Fly Out rotation to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville QC. Main pick-up points are St. John's, Gander, Deer Lake and Wabush (NL) as well as Halifax/Charlo and Montreal/Quebec City.Reporting to the Essential Services Supervisor, the Carpenter/journeyman will actively participate in the maintenance and improvement of primarily camp facilities.ResponsibilitiesStrong Safety focus while working on siteRead and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements for projectsPrepare layouts in conformance to building codes, specifications provided by engineeringMeasure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materialsBuild foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systemsFit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware,Maintain, repair,



and renovate residences and wooden structures on site or in townMay assist the supervisor with cost estimates for upcoming jobsWork independently with excellent time management skills are requiredAssist with inventory of tools and materials on site and notify supervisor when quantities drop below desired levelsRequirementsMust be able to work at heights in an outdoor setting in all seasonsCurrent Newfoundland and Labrador Fall Arrest certification would also be considered an assetClass 5 license, requiredMillwright experience with some scaffolding/carpentry experienceAWP Certification would be considered an assetThese skills and abilities would normally be acquired over the years in reaching Journey person status in the Carpentry field. All carpenters are expected to have their own small tools, tool belts with them upon hire and larger items will be provided by the company for use at site.
