The Position: The Groundskeeper at Havergal is part of adynamic team, under the leadership of the Grounds Lead, responsible for thedaily maintenance & operations tasks associated with all plantings andgrounds elements, and for the provision of support to other Facilities staff inthe performance of their duties relating to setups, furniture moves,deliveries, etc., where needed. Specific Accountabilities: Routinegrass maintenance, cutting and trimming. Weedingand cultivation of all flower and shrub beds. Pruningand trimming of all shrubs, bushes, ivy, etc. Applicationof fertilizers and other ground treatments. Markingand maintenance of all field lines for various games. Assistanceto the Grounds Lead in the design and installation of planters, steps, beds,etc. Constructionand/or installation of new landscape features, i.E. steps, beds, etc. Maintenanceof existing landscape features, including irrigation. Operateheavy winter equipment (truck plows, skid steers, snowblowers, etc) to clearparking lots, roadways, primary walkways, and emergency exits prior tostudent/staff arrival on campus. Applysalt, sand,



and eco-friendly ice melt across high-traffic pedestrian zones,stairs, bridges, and accessibility ramps. Clearsnow, ice, and debris from roof overhangs, eaves, catch basins, and stormdrains to prevent ice damming, localized flooding, and freeze-thaw hardscapedamage. Monitorschool grounds for ice-laden or damaged tree branches posing safety hazards,execute emergency pruning, and maintain winter wraps/burlap protection oncampus flora. Maintainmeticulous daily weather and salting logs for risk management compliance Maintenanceof woodlots. Clearingof debris from eavestroughs and flat roof drains. Routinemechanical maintenance of hand tools, power tools, machinery and equipment. Deliveryand pickup of various materials and items in and around the City of Toronto. Assistother Facilities staff as required to provide function setups, furniture andequipment moves, parking supervision, etc. Allother duties which may be requested by management. Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Minimumthree years of experience, ideally in winter maintenance. Demonstratedexperience operating large machinery, i.E. snowplows, sit-down mowers, blowers,salt spreaders, etc. Extensivegeneral knowledge of landscaping maintenance, plant materials and otherlandscape materials, i.E. interlock paving, etc. Well-skilledin the maintenance and repair of landscaping materials, both living and inert. Ableto use small power hand tools for the performance of repairs and installations. Workingknowledge of industry standards and safety guidelines, including WHMIS, OHSAct, AODA.
