OverviewBlack & McDonald's Utilities team is growing! If you are a committed and cooperative professional looking to contribute to a hard-working, innovative team, this opportunity is for you.Based in Edmonton and surrounding areas, the Utility Gas Fuser reports to the Foreperson or their designate. The Utility Gas Fuser performs fusions on gas pipe and provides a full installation cycle of gas facilities, such as, but not limited to, the following: install and complete all main line connections, including fittings, installing all service punch tees, completing tracer wire connections, and pressure testing completed main. In addition, the Utility Gas Fuser is responsible for submitting test documentation and ensuring proper documentation for as-builts. The Utility Gas Fuser will provide support to crews installing gas mains, tracer wires, and placing them online.ResponsibilitiesMeasure and stake the gas line in the proper locationsEnsure that all tees are installed and tested, tracer wire installed and staked correctlyEnsure that all deviations from line assignment, changes in fitting location, or requirements are documented for as-built recordsComplete all required pressure testing of ATCO and / or Apex Utilities facilities and submit all approved test documentation at the end of the project; communicate with ATCO and / or Apex Utilities inspectors on-siteLoad, unload, and move construction materials around the worksite, ensuring the worksite is organized and free of clutter, rubble, and garbageCompetency RequirementsChange Orientation (open to change and the ability to identify where it is needed and how to make it happen)Communicates Effectively (verbally and in writing)Continuous Learning (ongoing effort to learn and contribute to the learnings of others)Customer Focus (understand the needs and perspectives of both internal and external customers)Holds Self and Others Accountable (take personal responsibility to meet commitments)Problem Solving and Innovation (ability to approach problems logically and seek innovative solutions)Teamwork and Collaboration (work cooperatively and collaboratively with others)Values and Respects Others (encourages and supports diversity)Education RequirementsHigh School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferredATCO Gas and or Apex Utilities Fusion certification is preferred. A certified Atco and / or Apex Utilities fuser up to 8" for both pipe and tee is a requirementWork Experience RequirementsMinimum of 1–2 years of Gas Fusing experience, is requiredSkills, Abilities, and Other RequirementsAbility to complete live gas tie-ins safely and professionally as per ATCO and / or Apex Utilities requirementsShow an understanding and familiarization of all ATCO and / or Apex Utilities required work proceduresDemonstrate understanding and the ability to interpret ATCO and / or Apex Utilities gas printsExperience with outdoor construction labor and heavy equipment operations is considered an assetPhysical ability to repetitively lift and carry at least 40 lbs. regularlyDemonstrate professionalismDetail-oriented approach to tasksEffective verbal communication and customer service skillsA sense of urgency to meet deadlinesAbility to work independently and as part of a teamClass 5 Driver's License; clean Driver's Abstract, requiredConstruction Safety Certifications including the following are considered assets: Confined Space Awareness/Rescue; Fall Arrest; WHMIS; First Aid; Ground Disturbance CertificationPlease be advised that a Criminal Background Check and Professional Reference Check will be required as part of our employment screening and selection process.
