The QAI name and logo have become well‑recognized throughout the Certification world resulting in steady growth of our Certification, Testing, and Inspection business streams.

QAI is currently looking for a Technician I – to join our Building Products team in Toronto, ON. We are looking for a hands‑on individual who is comfortable working with tools, construction materials, and building product assemblies. Experience in carpentry, construction, installation, fabrication, or a related field is an asset.

The successful candidate will build and install test assemblies, construct test fixtures, perform testing, write reports, and assist with physical and environmental testing of building products. Previous laboratory testing experience is an asset but is not required, as training will be provided on QAI's testing procedures, equipment, and applicable standards.

A technical diploma, trade certification, or equivalent hands‑on experience is an asset. Flexibility in work schedule and willingness to work overtime when required is expected.

DUTIES

Perform laboratory testing of building products and assemblies, including windows, doors, skylights, wall systems, insulation, weather barriers, guardrails, steel panels, cladding, and structural panel systems.

Build, assemble, modify, and install building product test samples and assemblies using hand tools, power tools, fasteners, sealants, adhesives, and other construction materials. Construct test bucks, frames, walls, chambers, boxes, and other specialized test fixtures.

Read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, product specifications, installation instructions,



and test requirements to properly build test assemblies.

Operate laboratory testing equipment and instrumentation and assist with data acquisition and measurement equipment.

Perform testing, collect data, and assist with or prepare test reports under supervision or independently.

Record test data, observations, and deviations in a clear and accurate manner during and after testing

Safely operate tools, equipment, and material devices for construction and setup

Disassemble and dispose of test setups following completion of testing, maintaining a clean and organized lab workplace

Cooperate with others and act professionally

Maintain lab equipment, tools, and devices as required

Effectively / efficiently deals with multiple projects, conflicting timelines, and changing priorities

Learn key standards in subject area.

Work with the team to effectively resolve technical issues and determine the appropriate interpretation of technical requirements.

Maintains effective communication with internal staff and clients (willingness to travel as needed)

Understanding and ability to navigate the quality management system and adhere to QAI's policies

Meet department goals and objectives

Other duties as assigned by the manager or its designee.

QUALIFICATIONS

Have experience in carpentry, construction, framing, renovation, millwork, cabinetry, installation, fabrication, manufacturing, or another hands‑on trade or technical environment.

Technical diploma, trade certification, or equivalent is an asset.

Knowledge of construction / laboratory instrumentation / data acquisition / operating principles / calibration & general laboratory procedures;

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and test standards

Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail and build accuracy





Physically capable of lifting heavy materials and performing manual work in a lab/shop environment

Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a technical team.

Has a basic understanding of quality procedures and HR policies.

Understanding of workplace safety practices and experience working in regulated environments.

Familiar with MS Office and other software relevant to the position.

Key Technical Competence

Accepts instruction and follows it for testing outside of their general scope of knowledge and experience.

Able to grasp general concepts in a field of testing and apply it to specific test methods.

Able to perform testing and as knowledge grows in a specific field of testing graduates to more complex testing methods.

Seeks assistance and knowledge from more senior personnel when a specific requirement is outside of their general scope of knowledge.

Good working knowledge of the test methods in their specific discipline.

Able to multi‑task with some degree of efficiency and accuracy.

Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them.

Additional Information

Candidates must hold a valid driver's license.
