Purpose of roleThe successful candidate will administer payroll and perks across North America, ensuring continuity of service and compliance, as well as providing additional administrative support to the team. We are seeking someone with hands-on payroll experience, sound working knowledge of payroll requirements, and exposure to benefits and HR systems. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented and comfortable working independently, with the judgement to problem-solve routine issues while knowing when to ask questions or elevate. This role would suit someone with strong payroll fundamentals who is looking to deepen their payroll and benefits knowledge while gaining broader exposure to HR operations and project support.Key responsibilitiesTo perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability needed. This includes the following; other duties may be assigned as needed within skill sets or if additional responsibilities are added.Payroll Administration ProcessU.S. and Canadian semi-monthly and special payroll runsProduce post payroll reports and tax liability reports as required for Finance teamRun year-end payroll processes including all payroll adjustments, tax documents review and approval (i.E W2, T4)First level review of quarterly US tax packets for variances and manage payments or refunds with Finance teamRespond to payroll related queries and troubleshoot any issuesSupport cross-border pay mattersProcess quarterly Employee Health Tax payments to BC tax authorityProcess Canadian Workers Compensation salary reports and paymentsProcess and submit records of employment (ROE) to Service Canada AgencyEnsure personnel data accurate; record, research and resolve errors as neededAd-hoc reportingBenefitsAdminister benefit programs, including annual renewals, records maintenance, terminations, and reportingAssist with new hire benefits introduction and enrollmentMaintain benefit elections in Workday and with third party providersServe as first point of contact for benefit inquiries,
escalating complex matters as neededProvide administrative support for the 401(k) and RRSP, including communications, enrollments, changes, terminations, and annual compliance processes including year-end closing, non-discrimination testing, audit support, and required filingsSupport administration of pension enrollments and terminations, pension payments, and annual reporting and/or noticesBe aware of payroll and benefit compliance including Federal, State, & Local OrdinancesConduct regular audits of benefits, payroll and benefit provider information to ensure accuracyAd-hoc reportingHR Administration and Other ResponsibilitiesAudit, reconcile, and process HR invoicesManage workers' compensation and fiduciary liability renewals and auditsProvide administrative support to HR Business Partner (for example: project coordination, employee communications, training completion tracking, presentation material preparation)Flexibility to provide wider support to the HR team as requiredPreferred skills & QualificationsRelated degree or equivalent experienceCertification such as CPP a plusTrack record 3-5+ years' payroll experience, including at least 2 years independently managing payroll cyclesExperience independently processing payroll and troubleshooting issues, with a strong understanding of underlying payroll rules and calculationsExperience administering employee benefits programsProficiency with payroll software systems (Workday preferred)Strong understanding of Canadian payroll laws and regulationsMultinational experience would be an assetExcellent communication, organizational, and customer service skillsAbility to work independently, manage deadlines,
and adapt to competing prioritiesHigh attention to detailStrong Excel and numerical skills; ability to utilise AI an assetAbility to maintain highest level of confidentialityProcess improvement mindset with the ability to problem solveSalary and BenefitsThe expected base salary range for this role is $70,000 - 100,000. Actual offered salary will depend on experience, skills and qualifications.
