Position: AI Governance Expert

Location: Toronto, Canada Onsite

Duration: Long Term Contract

Experience

- 7+ years in Governance, Risk, Compliance, Data Governance, Privacy, Cybersecurity, AI Governance, or related disciplines .
- Experience governing AI, machine learning, generative AI, or advanced analytics solutions.
- Experience developing governance frameworks, policies, standards, and controls.
- Experience conducting risk assessments and governance reviews.
- Experience working with executive stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

Position Summary

- The AI Governance Expert is responsible for establishing, implementing, and continuously improving the organization's AI governance framework to ensure Artificial Intelligence solutions are deployed responsibly, securely, ethically, and in compliance with regulatory, privacy, cybersecurity, and corporate policy requirements.
- This role provides oversight across the AI lifecycle, including AI use cases, models, agents, third-party AI services, generative AI solutions, and emerging AI technologies. The position partners with business, technology, legal, privacy, security, risk, procurement, and compliance teams to ensure AI initiatives deliver business value while managing operational, ethical, regulatory, and reputational risks.

Key Responsibilities

AI Governance Framework

- Develop, maintain, and enhance the enterprise AI Governance Framework.
- Establish AI governance policies, standards, procedures, and control requirements.
- Define AI governance processes and decision-making structures.
- Monitor compliance with internal AI governance requirements and external regulations.

AI Inventory & Lifecycle Governance

- Govern and maintain enterprise AI inventories, model registries, and agent registries.




- Establish standards for documenting AI use cases, models, datasets, prompts, agents, and AI services.
- Ensure AI systems are properly classified, reviewed, approved, and monitored throughout their lifecycle.
- Implement governance controls from AI ideation through retirement.

Responsible AI Oversight

- Lead Responsible AI reviews and risk assessments.
- Evaluate AI solutions for fairness, transparency, explainability, accountability, human oversight, robustness, and privacy considerations.
- Define and monitor Responsible AI controls and mitigation plans.
- Coordinate remediation activities for identified AI risks.

AI Risk Management

- Conduct AI Risk and Impact Assessments (RAICs) for AI solutions, models, agents, and vendors.
- Identify regulatory, ethical, operational, cybersecurity, privacy, and reputational risks associated with AI deployments.
- Define risk mitigation plans and monitor implementation effectiveness.
- Report AI risks to governance committees and senior leadership.

AI Vendor & Third-Party Governance

- Evaluate third-party AI products, services, and platforms.
- Participate in vendor due diligence, procurement reviews, and contract assessments.
- Assess AI vendors for data protection, model governance, security, compliance, and Responsible AI practices.
- Establish AI-specific vendor governance requirements and controls.

Regulatory & Compliance Management

- Monitor evolving AI regulations, standards,



and industry best practices.
- Assess the impact of emerging AI laws and frameworks on organizational practices.
- Support regulatory preparedness and audit activities.
- Develop governance controls aligned with industry frameworks and standards.

AI Controls, Monitoring & Assurance

- Define AI control requirements and governance checkpoints.
- Monitor AI systems for compliance with policies and governance standards.
- Support AI audits, control testing, and assurance reviews.
- Develop governance metrics, KPIs, and reporting dashboards.

Stakeholder Engagement & Training

- Collaborate with business and technology teams to embed governance requirements into AI initiatives.
- Provide guidance to project teams on governance expectations and approval requirements.
- Develop awareness, education, and training programs related to Responsible AI and governance.
- Support executive briefings, governance committees, and leadership reporting.

Data Governance & Privacy Alignment

- Ensure AI solutions align with enterprise data governance, privacy, cybersecurity, and information protection requirements.
- Partner with Data Governance, Privacy, Security, Legal, and Risk teams to establish integrated controls.
- Support classification, retention, lineage, data quality, and data protection requirements for AI solutions.

Qualifications

Education

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Information Systems, Risk Management, Business, Law, or related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
