The District offers its respect to the Knowledge Keepers and all First Peoples who have been stewards on these lands since time immemorial.Key ResponsibilitiesManaging the various Learning Services budgets including exercising spending control and monitoring the availability of funds in collaboration with the Director of Finance and Directors of Learning ServicesProviding, monitoring and ensuring accuracy of the day-to-day financial information of the Learning Services departmentProviding regular financial updates, recommendations and forecasts as appropriate and requiredImplementing best financial practices and business improvements and maintaining internal financial controls in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards and Ministry of Education Financial regulations.Collaborating with Financial Services with respect to school allocations,
capital transactions and year-end workPreparing internal and external financial performance report for information purposes or for grants, targeted funds and Ministry reporting requirementsCollaboration with and support of appropriate Learning Services staff with respect to matters that impact the department and/or district financesQualifications:Chartered Skilled Accountant designation (CPA)Ten years of related progressive experience in accounting and finance and with supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized settingDemonstrated expertise in finance, accounting, financial planning and forecasting with solid business acumenExtensive knowledge and experience with all aspects of computerized financial systems and advanced knowledge of ExcelProven ability to prioritize and meet deadlinesDemonstrated project management and problem-solving skillsKnowledge of and experience in the K-12 public education sector and knowledge of public sector accounting standards (PSAS) would be considered an asset.Core Competencies:Financial AcumenDemonstrates a strong understanding of financial principles and practices, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.CommunicationClearly conveys financial concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Identifies opportunities for efficiency and continuous improvement.Systems ThinkingUnderstands how financial decisions impact the broader education system, including staffing, student programs, and community services.AdaptabilityResponds effectively to changes in funding, policy, or priorities within the dynamic K-12 education environment.Working Conditions:Office-based with occasional school site visits.May be required to attend evening board meetings or committee meetings.Extended hours during budget season or year-end.Compensation & Benefits:Competitive annual salary range: $83,339 – $104,173 based on qualifications and experience.The District offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including extended health and dental benefits, vacation, and a pension plan.
