Asset Management Inspector, Roads

ASI Engineering is seeking an Asset Management Inspector, Roads to support asset management, infrastructure assessment, and engineering consulting projects. This role is a mix of office-based technical work and field-based data collection, with up to 50% of the work expected to take place in the field.

The successful candidate will work with engineers, municipalities, infrastructure owners, contractors, and clients to inspect and assess roads and related civil infrastructure, collect and validate asset information, identify deficiencies, and translate field observations and technology-generated data into reliable information and practical recommendations for maintenance, rehabilitation, and capital planning.

A key component of this position will be operating a specialized asset inspection vehicle equipped with AI-based video capture, LiDAR, GPS, and other road-condition data collection technologies.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct field inspections and condition assessments of roads and related civil infrastructure, including pavement, curbs, sidewalks, drainage features, shoulders, medians, signage, markings, and other roadway assets as required.
- Identify and document pavement and roadway deficiencies, including cracking, potholes, rutting, surface deterioration, patching, settlement, heaving, edge deterioration, drainage issues, and other visible defects.
- Operate a specialized inspection vehicle equipped with AI video capture, LiDAR, GPS, cameras, and other asset data collection technologies to collect roadway condition and infrastructure information.
- Monitor inspection equipment and data collection systems during field operations and identify issues that may affect the quality or completeness of collected data.
- Review AI and technology-generated road condition information and validate identified defects and asset conditions through field observations and supporting data.
- Collect and verify asset data, including location, dimensions, quantities, materials, condition ratings, defect types, severity, and other relevant attributes.
- Use GPS, GIS, mapping, imaging, LiDAR, and mobile inspection technologies to accurately locate and document infrastructure assets and deficiencies.
- Prepare field notes, condition assessment documentation, technical summaries, photographs, maps, sketches, and other project deliverables.
- Populate and maintain road and civil infrastructure asset registers, GIS databases, inspection records,



and condition data within asset management systems.
- Review specifications, previous inspection reports, GIS information, maintenance records, and other technical documentation to prepare for and validate field inspections.
- Assist with the development of condition ratings, deterioration models, remaining service-life assessments, and maintenance or rehabilitation recommendations.
- Identify data gaps, inconsistencies, or anomalies and perform additional field verification where required.
- Coordinate inspection routes, site access, traffic requirements, and field activities with municipalities, infrastructure owners, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.
- Support quality-control reviews to ensure inspection data is accurate, complete, consistent, and suitable for asset management and engineering analysis.
- Participate in client meetings and communicate field findings and infrastructure condition information in clear, practical language.
- Produce technical reports, presentations, maps, and other engineering and asset-management deliverables.

Qualifications

- Degree, diploma, or certification in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Surveying, Transportation Engineering, Construction Technology, Asset Management, or a related field.
- Understanding of roadway construction, pavement materials, civil infrastructure, drainage systems, and common roadway defects.
- Ability to interpret civil engineering drawings, plans, specifications, GIS information, and technical documentation.
- Understanding of pavement condition assessment principles and roadway maintenance and rehabilitation practices.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct field inspections, collect accurate measurements, identify infrastructure deficiencies, and record observations systematically.
- Strong written communication, technical reporting, organization, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with GIS, mobile inspection, asset management, or field data collection software.
- Experience with GPS, LiDAR, photogrammetry, roadway imaging,



AI-based inspection systems, or other automated data collection technologies is an asset.
- Knowledge of municipal infrastructure asset management, pavement management, lifecycle planning, and transportation infrastructure management.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel regularly to project sites across North America.

Experience

- At least 4 years of experience in civil engineering, civil engineering technology, transportation infrastructure, construction, inspection, surveying, asset management, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience conducting roadway or civil infrastructure inspections, condition assessments, or field data collection is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with GIS, GPS, LiDAR, roadway imaging, mobile data collection, or automated inspection technologies is an advantage.
- Experience collecting, reviewing, validating, or managing large volumes of infrastructure asset data is an advantage.

Pay: $60,000.00-$92,000.00 per year
