The Opportunity

Rockford is looking for an Automation Supervisor to lead our team of in-house automation designers as they design, integrate, commission, and support industrial automation systems for manufacturing, material handling, power, utilities, and other heavy industrial applications.

This is a hands-on role with technical ownership, taking automation projects from concept and design through programming, fabrication, commissioning, startup, and customer acceptance. You will work closely with Engineers, Technologists, Project Managers, electricians, technicians, suppliers, and customers to deliver practical, reliable automation solutions.

Responsibilities

- Lead, supervise, and develop a team of engineers and technologists, providing coaching, performance feedback, development planning, and day-to-day support.
- Plan team capacity and assign resources across competing project priorities to support effective project delivery and utilization.
- Oversee engineering project performance, including scope,



schedules, design progress, technical quality, resource requirements, risks, and deliverables.
- Ensure engineering work is completed in accordance with Rockford’s design, checking, documentation, quality, safety, and professional practice standards.
- Identify and address technical, resource, performance, and project delivery issues early, escalating risks when required.
- Support project planning, proposals, and estimating by providing technical input, scope definition, assumptions, risks, and resource estimates.
- Lead assigned engineering projects and perform Lead Designer responsibilities as required, including technical coordination and customer interaction.
- Build team capability through hiring, onboarding, mentorship, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and standards.
- Work collaboratively with Project Management, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, and other teams to ensure engineering priorities align with project and organizational requirements.
- Promote accountability, effective communication, sound technical decision-making, and a solid culture of safety and quality.
- Where professionally qualified and authorized, review, stamp, and seal engineering records in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.

What We're Looking For

- Strong soft skills including leadership, mentorship, performance feedback, time management, decision making & team building.
- Degree, diploma, or technical training in Automation, Electrical, Controls, Instrumentation,



Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- 7 to 10 years of industrial automation experience preferred, with demonstrated capability in design, programming, troubleshooting, or commissioning.
- 2+ years of experience of successfully leading a team of industrial automation specialists.
- Strong understanding of industrial automation and control systems.
- Ability to interpret electrical, control, mechanical, and technical documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions.
- Experience working in manufacturing, material handling, power, utilities, mining, or other heavy industrial environments is an asset.
- Eng., E.I.T., C.E.T. P.Tech., or equivalent designation is an asset.
- Licensed or eligible for registration in Saskatchewan and other jurisdictions covered by Rockford's Certificates of Authorization.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites, including occasional extended commissioning assignments.
- Ability to work safely in industrial environments and successfully complete a criminal record check.
