Per Course Faculty Teaching Opportunity

Under the terms of the 17th Collective Agreement, and in accordance with Article 58.10(a)(ii) the University invites applications from all qualified individuals; however, candidates eligible to work in Canada shall be given priority. Course Title: Teaching Mathematics in Elementary School 2 (EDUC 40B3 WI01)

Contract Term: December 1, 2026 - April 30, 2027

Course Schedule: Winter Term: Tuesdays 8:30am - 11:50am

Course Format: In person at Acadia University

Stipend Amount: The current Per Course stipend for this appointment is specified in Appendices H and I of the 17th Collective Agreement.

Course Description: Fundamental issues in elementary mathematics education include the nature of mathematics and our purposes in teaching mathematics. Drawing on relevant documents and current research, this course provides pre-service teachers with opportunities to investigate and use instructional and assessment materials for elementary school mathematics. Prerequisite(s): EDUC 4173 with a minimum grade of B- or permission of the instructor.

Qualifications: M.Ed. or higher in an area relevant to the advertised course.

A record of academic expertise in relevant theories related to the creation of a positive and successful professional teacher identity is required. Recent experience as an educational leader at a Regional Office or as a school-based administrator is required. Relevant knowledge and experience of educational leadership in areas of policy, ethics, unions, hiring processes, school-community partnerships, teaching standards, career planning, and curriculum development is required.

Recent experience designing, facilitating, and assessing a teacher education course at a university level is preferred. Successful recent experience working independently and as part of a team is essential. The B.Ed.



is a provincially accredited program.

Applicants will therefore be expected to teach to the accreditation standards for this course.
