Responsibilities

- Lead and supervise daily operations within the daycare, ensuring activities are engaging, educational, and age-appropriate.
- Support and mentor caregiving staff to deliver high-quality care that meets licensing standards and organizational policies.
- Coordinate classroom schedules, activities, and routines to promote a positive learning environment.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all children by maintaining strict adherence to health, safety, and sanitation protocols.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding children's progress, behavior, and developmental milestones.
- Assist in planning curriculum activities that foster social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Maintain accurate records related to attendance, incidents, and developmental assessments.
- Develop and maintain high-quality play-based programs and establish professional, positive relationships with families, staff and relevant stakeholders
- Have problem solving and confident decision-making skills and manage the resolution of service delivery issues, including the reporting and follow-up of serious occurrences as outlined by the Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act (CCEYA)
- Supervise the day-to-day operation of assigned staff,



including the scheduling and reviewing of work. Authorize and co-ordinate vacation, personal day and overtime requests
- Supervise, motivate and train staff, promote effective teamwork, high standard of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourage innovation in others
- Monitor and evaluate staff performance, oversee attendance management, participate in collective bargaining, attend grievances and recommend disciplinary action when necessary
- Provide input into and administer assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limits
- Maintain complete accurate financial records, including parent fees, bill payments and petty cash
- Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children and staff and that the centre is compliant with all legislation, policies and procedures
- Plan and implement parent-family involvement and engagement strategies
- Work with external agencies, services and resources including local community agencies working with the child and family sector to provide integrated seamless programs
- Participate and make decisions with regard to supervising, hiring and facilitating staff development
- Ensure compliance of all legislative CCEYA requirements for the centre

Experience

- Proven classroom experience working with young children in an early childhood education setting.




- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team of caregivers or educators with enthusiasm and professionalism.
- Strong background in caregiving practices that support children's physical and emotional needs.
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles, safety standards, and licensing requirements.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff and families.
- Must have a diploma or degree in early childhood education from an Ontario college or university; must be a registered early childhood educator in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators; have a clear criminal and vulnerable reference check; meet health requirements, have CPR and first aid certification; provide at least three employment-related references; childcare management certificate would be an asset
- Knowledge of Toronto Children’s Services and Canada-Wide Early Learning, Child Care agreements administration and interpretation, labour relations principles and practices, and relevant employment legislation, including human rights and occupational health and safety
- Minimum of three years of experience working in a supervisory role or five years of experience as an assistant supervisor in a licensed setting, delivering high-quality programs and leading and implementing a play-based program model
