Edmonton Islamic Academy (EIA) is seeking Substitute Educational Assistants to support students in our Secondary Division on an as-needed basis.The successful candidate will provide instructional and ESL support to students under the direction of the Specialized Services Coordinator and classroom teachers. The Educational Assistant will help students develop the academic, language, and learning skills needed to succeed in the educational setting.The role may include one-on-one support, small-group assistance, classroom support, resource preparation, and student supervision.ResponsibilitiesProvide instructional and ESL support to secondary studentsWork one-on-one or in small groups with students as directedSupport students in following individualized learning plans and classroom programmingAssist students with academic tasks, language development, organization, and classroom routinesCollaborate with classroom teachers and the Specialized Services Coordinator regarding student progress and needsAssist with communication and reporting related to student supportPrepare learning materials and classroom resources as requiredSupervise students during assigned instructional and non-instructional timesSupport positive student behavior and appropriate classroom participationMaintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school personnelFollow Edmonton Islamic Academy policies, procedures, and expectationsPerform other related duties as assignedQualifications, Education and ExperienceEducational Assistant Certificate or comparable education is an assetNon-Violent Crisis Intervention training is an assetCourses or training related to supporting students with special needs are an assetExperience supporting English Language Learners is an assetMinimum of one year of related experience is preferredExperience working with junior high or high school students is considered an assetDemonstrated Skills and CompetenciesStrong oral communication and active listening skillsStrong interpersonal skills combined with tact, patience, and diplomacyStrong organizational and time-management skillsReliability and dependabilityAbility to work effectively as part of a cooperative teamAbility to adapt to different classrooms, students, and daily assignmentsComfort and competency using computers and other technologies to support student learningAbility to respect and value all individuals with sensitivity to diversityAbility to respond appropriately to challenging student behaviors
