permanent, full-time Building Official I
to join our dedicated Development, Engineering, and Sustainability (DES) team. This is an opportunity to have a direct impact on the growth and innovation in Kamloops’ infrastructure. As a Building Official I, you will play a pivotal role in review and approval of building permits, site inspections, enforcement of BC’s Building Code, City bylaws and much more! This highly technical position interacts with and provides professional guidance to many internal departments, developers, owners, contractors and other external agencies. Completion of secondary school or equivalent. Valid BC Driver’s Licence - Class 5. BC Trade Qualification or inter‑provincial carpentry ticket and/or graduation from a recognized building technology course. Must have passed the Building Officials Association of BC Level I examinations. Please note, this Building Official I posting coincides with postings for a fully qualified Building Official III (2037) and Building Official II (2036). Our preference is to hire a fully qualified Building Official III. However, if there are no candidates deemed fully qualified, candidates for the Building Official II and Building Official I postings will be considered. For new hires, and for those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check.
